That's not the test of whether something is a mental illness. You can take a pill for anything. And there are several mental illnesses that are incurable.

"Science by vote" is a farce. Especially when the vote had such a sorry level of participation, and no real justification for the change other than "its not fair to gay people". That's bullshit.

But you see "science by vote" is rather stupid. And the result of "the vote" was hardly unanimous. And has not been backed up by an explanation of "why" we have decided that something as obviously deviant as homosexuality isn't still at least listed as a paraphilia. It fits the criteria.

Cause having sex with a same gendered person is definitely unconventional for human physiology as we have evolved it. Someone needs to come up with a reason why we should separate this obvious aberrant behavior from the others in definitive terms.
And again, so far, all I have read is that it causes homosexuals difficulty in social situations to be considered disordered. Big whoop. So does a lot of crap that is still considered deviant. Such bullshit astounds.

In my own opinion, the only reason our side ever brings up the APA is to show that it is not an unmitigated fact that homosexuality is a mental illness, because many people who are trained to diagnose the mind don't see it as such. All it really does is diffuse the argument that it IS a mental illness, because if professionals in the mental health field have not reached a consensus on it, then a bunch of people debating it on an internet message board surely aren't going to either.

So my point is that you need to come up with another reason why gays shouldn't be allowed to marry than the old "we shouldn't have to change marriage to suit someone's illness" line. It's old, doesn't hold even an ounce of water, and has been thoroughly and undeniably debunked.
