It's fair and right to legally recognize the union. But not to call that recognition a union. A wheelchair is not the same thing as legs.
Do you know any gay people? Seriously. Do you realize how ridiculous these statements are to most people who know any homosexuals?

However, on the bright side this ruling will force the issue back into the open during the Presidential elections, and also the CA gubernatorial elections.

This could well drive a larger turnout of evangelical Christians to vote for McCain in November.

As for California we are left with no option but to move ahead with Plan B.

Pro-family organizations have submitted more than 1.1 million signatures for an initiative that would amend the state Constitution to outlaw same-sex marriage.

If at least 694,354 signatures are found to be valid, the measure would go on the November ballot and, if approved by voters, would override any court ruling in favor of same-sex marriage.
Why do you need to be constantly reminded that alien residents like you in the US are not any part of "We The People"....

Gary, I seriously doubt that California is going to successfully legislate discrimination inton it's state constitution with an ammendment defining marriage. Keep on dreaming though.

And as far as homosexuality, it has gone on since time began. It does not seek to take over, unlike Christianity, just to join in. It has absolutely no effect on straight couples if gays marry, none. Get over all this nonsense about the sanctity of it, because that is religious, and not everyone gets married in Church. Stop trying to make everyone else the same as you, they aren't trying to make you be like them. Could you imnagine how pissed you'd be if we tried to make you zealots criminals for going to church?

Actually I do know a few. There's a gay couple at the end of my cul-de-sac. Nice guys. Things are ridiculous to different people for different reasons. I can't control people's feelings. NMP.

Looks like I am late to the party.
I have to admit I am VERY surprised by this turn of events.

Just when I thought gay marriage wasn't going to be an issue in this election... looks like I was wrong. No doubt the right wing is organizing their talking points even now.

Don't be too sure.

A lot of people in California are miffed that their government isn't doing what it's been told to do.

61% of Californians voted to keep marriage as one man one woman in 2000. Today a vote of 4-3 overturned that, at least temporarily.

Once we get activated you'll be surprised what could happen.

Irrelevant. Marriage is a sacred union given from God and subsequently adopted by secularists who want to redefine it to accommodate homosexuals.

If secular progressives want to invent some other grouping for homosexuals, zoophiles etc then let them go ahead. But don't hijack Holy Matrimony.

Stop trying to make everyone else the same as you, they aren't trying to make you be like them. Could you imnagine how pissed you'd be if we tried to make you zealots criminals for going to church?
Of course it's ridiculous and offensive to compare God's church to a sexual deviancy.

Why not, 26 or so states that have already done it. And they allowed the people to vote on a law, which passed. We'll see.

That's not the standard. This nation was founded on slavery and genocide, didn't seem to hurt us that much. Zoofie is mentioned in the Bible. Seems it has a pretty substantial human history too. No one is trying to "make people the same as them", they are just making sure that an obvious human disorder isn't allowed to use the term that signifies the hetero union. The basis of life on this planet.
