I would think that would be the woman's choice. I doubt there are gay couples out there kidnapping women and forcing them to give birth.

What there is quite frequently are women who are lied to, and marry men who know they are gay, but they hide that from their wives and kids...then one day, they decide they can break free from the lie and come out. Only to shatter lives left behind.

And after taking on a gay partner, they can even fight for custody of the children.

And just how much worse is that then a man who decides to throw his family away for his 20 year old secretary?

No, that did not happen to me, Knot. But I do have enough empathy to think it would be worse than the scenario you offered of a man running off with his secretary.

I can imagine a woman would go through all kinds of thoughts and insecurities after having been the wife to a gay man. I have known two such families in my community.

I am not bitter. I have not been touched by that particular tragedy. But I have some understanding. Women need to be affirmed and validated in these cases, but it seems all too quickly, everyone is wanting to pat the man on the back for his "brave" decision to come out.

Interestingly enough, this is currently happening to a man I work with, but it is the other way around, his wife left him for a woman. They had 6 kids together and had been married for over 20 years. I personally know of 3 other people this has happened to, one a man and two women.

When a family breaks up, for whatever reason, it is hard on the kids. However, if the parents can be grown ups about it, regardless of the sexuality of the grown ups, the transition can be made smoothly.

50% of marriages end in divorce. A minute amount of those have anything to do with the sexuality of the parents.

Your assessment of 'women need to be validated' is shit, IMO. Women are strong and shouldn't need outside validation.

To tell the truth, I would much rather know that my husband left be because of his latent homosexuality then because I just wasn't good enough as a woman anymore, and he wanted to trade me in for a newer model.
