Gavin Newsom - Marriage Hypocrite
January 6, 2005: Mayor Gavin Newsom and his Court TV analyst wife, Kimberly Guilfoyle Newsom, announced "with great sadness" the end of their 3-year-old bicoastal marriage in a brief statement issued late Wednesday by the mayor's City Hall press office.

"Unfortunately, the demands of our respective careers have made it too difficult for us to continue as a married couple," the pair said in the statement.

Several friends of the couple, who would speak only on condition of anonymity for fear of alienating them, said the split came as little surprise.

"It's no secret that they have been leading separate lives,'' said one close friend. "She's on one coast, he's on the other -- how can you make a marriage work like that?''

The friend said both are strong personalities and needed someone to be with -- but Guilfoyle Newsom wasn't interested in abandoning New York, where she has a job with Court TV and makes other media appearances, and the mayor obviously is in no position to move East.

Several months ago, Guilfoyle Newsom herself told family and friends she had "never signed on'' to be a mayoral wife -- something others found hard to believe, given the high-profile and politically tinged wedding the couple staged for 500 people at St. Ignatius Church in December 2001.

In 2004, the return trips became less and less frequent. For Newsom's birthday, she bought him a set of luggage, in hopes he might visit her more often.

According to you, both gay marriage and divorce are destroying traditional marriage, so exactly how is that hypocritical? Newsom only wants to give gay and lesbian couples the same rights to marry and divorce as he and his ex-wife had.

The only thing I'm trying to figure out is what does this have to do with SSM?

The article isn't saying that their marriage ended because of anything to do with SSM, but because of their living so far apart because of their careers...

I don't see any hypocrisy in that article, let alone one darn thing about their marriage ending that has to do with SSM supposedly 'destroying traditional marriage'.

This whole article is in the wrong forum in fact...It doesn't belong in "Political Issues" since their divorce isn't related to politics but careers. Nor does it belong in specifically "Gay Marriage" since their marriage was obviously a hetrosexual marriage.

The forum it does fit into best on this board though is "Lifestyles and Love", which is where relationships (the creation or ending of) are discussed?

Opinion L.A. : Los Angeles Times : In today's pages: The Times and Gavin Newsom on gay marriage

Newsom is the mayor of San Fran and brought the lawsuit that resulted in gay marriage. It seems to me, most hetero people that expressly favor this kind of crap have no business with an opinion on it in the first place since they have proven they don't give a sh#t about "marriage" in the first place. Or they have proven themselves failures at it. Or both.

I will never be able to understand how MORE people committing to long term monogamous marriages is detrimental to marriage.

I guess it takes a real bigot to understand the logic.

Because that's not the standard. Same gendered dysfunction included under the name "marriage" will never be considered an improvement.
Take a real mess up thinking to not to understand the homosexual unions are no marriage.

Someone's opinion or support of other's rights doesn't have a thing to do as to whether or not they personally have the right to be married. Look at you...You have a pi$$poor attitude in regards to women and your past promiscious bahavior...Which many people find distasteful...Yet nobody says that you should have been disallowed the right to marry because of your lack of respect towards those tails you chased eh?

Simply put, this fellow's marriage ended simply because of where his wife's job was (remember, she didn't want to leave her job to be with him...He couldn't leave his job to be with her either)...So trying to attach whether or not he supported this/that issue really has no place in why their marriage ended.

Nor does it give anyone a reason to attach whether or not they had the right to marry based off of their support/non-support of current issues. People aren't disallowed to marry because their opinions about things are different then others.

It's just yet another weak attempt on the part of the anti-SSM people like yourself, to take two unrealated issues and try to pass it off as the same issue...Ya'll really need to get a life of your own and stop sticking your noses into the lives of others or make it out to be more then it is from your fantasy weavings.

I was just answering your question. Don't even feel like answering the rest of your post since "Fxashun" ain't the topic here. Start a new thread if you want to talk about "Fxashun".

Then you failed dismally FX...Since it has nothing to do with SSM to begin with...

The argument 'he supported SSM' doesn't cut it...Nor does your excuse that 'people that support SSM shouldn't be allowed to marry cause they don't agree with my point of view' either...

Unless you can prove that his marriage ended specifically because of his support of SSM, then trying to associate his marriage ending as being related to SSM is worthless...

Again...His marriage ended because of where him and his wife's jobs were located and not being with one another because of job locations...Not SSM...But distance and careers.

As such, their marriage ending is irrelevant to SSM period. Nor was the ending of their marriage related to thier positions on SSM...

Try again kiddo.
