Yet you can be charged as an adult as young as 14. So legally, "child" is situational and not as concrete as you claim. Not the first time you have been a bit "off" about that.
Here's a legal definition that is just as vague as it looks in practice.
child - legal definition


(1) A son or daughter of any age, sometimes including biological offspring, unborn children, adopted children, stepchildren, foster children and children born outside of marriage. (2) A person under an age specified by law, often 14 or 16. For example, state law may require a person to be over the age of 14 to make a valid will, or may define the crime of statutory rape as sex with a person under the age of 16. In this sense, a child can be distinguished from a minor, who is a person under the age of 18 in most states. A person below the specified legal age who is married is often considered an adult rather than a child. See also emancipation.

Well, fx, I wasn't saying what everyone thinks about the age of adulthood, I was saying what I thought it should be. If you actually paid attention to what I said you would know that. Of course there are extenuating circumstances that allow for variations. I personally don't think that 14 year olds should be tried as adults, unless the crime was so heinous that you couldn't risk them being released back into society at 18. And I don't think that an 18 year old should be prosecuted for having consensual sex with a 15 or 16 year old. But when a 40 year old is sleeping with a 14 year, i have a big problem with that.
