The most totalitarian governmental entity in every state is usually Child Protective Services. They do some good work, but if someone has a complaint called in (often by a vengeful ex-spouse), the parents have to go great lengths to get them to back off.

The Texas FDLS child seizure was ridiculous. Maybe now CPS will not be so heavyhanded.
