63 percent say government should NOT regulate whether gays and lesbians marry
To those who are against marriage equality, read it and weep. The times, they are 'a changin'!

Six in ten Americans say the government should not regulate whether gays and lesbians can wed the persons they choose, a new survey finds.

As same-sex couples start lining up to get marriage licenses in California on June 17, the USA TODAY/Gallup Poll found 63 percent of adults say same-sex marriage is "strictly a private decision" between two people.

That the government has the right "to prohibit or allow" such marriages was stated by 33 percent, and 4 percent had no opinion.
63 percent say gay marriage is a choice

Thoughts?

Hate is NOT a 'family value.'
Feminism: the radical notion that women are human beings.

Well, I'm sure MY thoughts could be articulated by just about every regular on the board!

Bigotry is a social disease.

Legalized same-sex marriage almost certainly benefits those same-sex couples who choose to marry, as well as the children being raised in those homes. - David Blankenhorn is president of the New York-based Institute for American Values and the author of "The Future of Marriage."

Clearly, the percentage of those opposed to gay marriage will decrease because younger citizens are more likely to not be against gay marriage.

On the other hand, surveys on this type of issue are often suspect. Its hard to tell a lot from surveys because the wording of the question makes a difference. This does not seem consistent with other national surveys on the question of whether marriage should be limited to a man and a woman generally run slightly over 50% (again, wording can make a difference).

The question USA Today presented was a little obtuse since it injected the issue of whether the government should have the right to approve marriages.

Surveys on topics like this are notoriously inaccurate.

Less than 8 years ago Californians voted by a substantial minority to defend traditional marriage from attack by the homosexual activists and others.

It seems highly unlikely that there has been such a change in such a short time.

But if you feel confident this survey is accurate then no doubt you will work to get this issue on the ballot in November so it can be settled once and for all...............

No, and they aren't getting married yet.

I'm not getting blown up by IED's in Iraq either so I suppose by your bizarre logic there's no need to end the war?

With the advent of push polling and survey techniques that allow the polling entity to shape the poll to obtain the answer they want, I have no confidence in 90% of the survey results I see.

My favorite was a survey by a group opposed to gay marriage. The question was "Do you feel that you have a right to a gay marriage?" By making the question first person, many of the recipients thought the poll was asking whether they would personally be interested in a gay marriage.

Any time you ask a question about the government's role in any marriage issue, some respondents will always say it is none of the government's business.

Exactly.

It's like asking people "Do you think the government should stop taxing you?"

But people ARE gettinig blown up by IED's in Iraq.

Whose marriages will end when gays start marrying later this month in CA?

Or was that just a silly analogy which had no relevance?

I would laugh my ass off at some idiot claiming that their marriage dissolved because of gay marriage.
