Since she's no longer performing marriages and she is not required by California law to do so, I don't think she's disrespecting the law.

If she was required by law to perform marriages, then I would say that she was violating the law.

I didn't say she was violating the law. But it is very clear that her reason for refusing to perform any marriages is because she does not want to perform same sex marriages. I would say that shows a definite lack of respect for the Calif. Supreme Court decision.
Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this.

A decision which showed a lack of respect for the people's decision not have gay marriage in that state.. Looks like California just has a lack of respect.

Considering it was the court that decided it was wrong to have mixed race marriages illegal, you should be counting your blessings that the courts don't go by the whim of the people.

Considering it was the government that made them illegal in the first place, I wonder did that get put to a vote? In this case, there were mixed race marriages BEFORE there were laws against them. There were NO same gender marriages, and no one contemplated them as a possibility until recently. There's is a much more storied human history of race mixing than same sex activity being accepted.

Sometimes all one ought to do and all one can do with conviction is to be true to one's self. Count the cost and pay it.

yeah

the results often inspired songs such as "Strange Fruit," etc.

Quote:
Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.

Conservatism: Self-centered mean-spiritedness fueled by ignorance and misguided self-importance.

Bigotry is a social disease.

Legalized same-sex marriage almost certainly benefits those same-sex couples who choose to marry, as well as the children being raised in those homes. - David Blankenhorn is president of the New York-based Institute for American Values and the author of "The Future of Marriage."

Wow Tristan, so Fx is strange?

So who is the fruit then?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Fact is, how are you gonna win friends and influence people if you try to justify your fight for rights by denigrating others?
Your racism is a dangerous thing to hang on to and incorporate in your own stuggle for public acceptance.
I am nearly tempted to report your post for the tone of such a dreadful piece as that which you quoted.

Strange Fruit

"Strange Fruit" is a song performed most famously by Billie Holiday. It condemned American racism, particularly the lynching of African Americans....

Don't worry about it OD. I'm a member of Stormfront just so I can experience that kind of stuff. I understand that THIS country had people that hung Black people for various reasons. Kinda stupid really to import people just so you can hate them, but hey "White folk" got tired of hating each other so they needed somewhere to point all that excess hate.

But I also know that there are countries (plural) to this day that still hang gay people just for "being gay". And I don't need a poem about days gone by in this country. I can google it up in the recent news from any of the numerous countries where being caught "gay" is a death sentence.
