Down syndrome refers to the 19th century English physician J. Langdon Down who described the condition in 1866. In great error, Langdon Down attributed the condition to a "reversion" to the "mongoloid race." The clinical term is Trisomy 21. When the child is conceived the two chromosomes from each parent are to split to join the other. But for different reasons one of the pairs does not split in one parent or the other. And so the 21st chromosome is made up of three instead of two...

This happens at conception. And in most cases is disjunctive or simply not related to the genes of either parent. But in some cases there is a genetic snag and those parents would always conceive a child with Trisomies.

How was standing up to the controversy about being the first gay consecrated gay bishop, in spite of hate-spewing, death threats, and condemnation from right wing lunatic fringe people who don't even belong to his church?
