When I use the term "gay", I am referring to an adult man or woman who has a sexual preference for another adult of the same sex.

A male child molester who molests young boys is not gay. He's a child molester.

A person who has sex with animals of his/her same sex is not gay. He's a zoophiliac and a pervert.

I don't assign a sexual preference to people who have sex with children or animals. While I don't "assign" sexual preferences anyway, in identifying sexual preferences I ignore deviancies.

Bestiality and pedophilia repeatedly come up on the board. They have nothing to do with gay life IMHO.

I saw an article in the paper about a "child molester" and "pedophile" who was a 20 year old man who had a sexual relationship with a 16 year old high school senior.

While the law may define that as statutory rape, the man is not a "child molester" or "pedophile".

"Zero tolerance" is a factor in this stupid labelling. In response to some courts allowing serial child molesters to evade serious punishment (and often resulting in more child molestations and in some cases murder), we overreacted by creating an overbearing sexual offender registration law. The man referenced above is no menace to society - he's a horny 20 year old who boffed a 16 year old. The guy who is arrested for whacking off in a porno theatre is ordinarily no threat. Let's register the offenders that pose a threat instead of every sex-related criminal. As it stands now, you don't really know who to be wary of.

"Zero tolerance" is the bastion of cowardly persons of authority who lack the cajones to use the discretion when addressing a problem.

True Examples of "Zero Tolerance" Running Amuck

Number One:

Four junior high girls and one junior high boy show up at a dance sponsored by another school. The four girls are plastered and disrupted the dance, the boy had 1/2 a beer and was well-behaved. The boy confesses that he had walked to the dance with the girls and that he had 1/2 a beer. Had he not confessed, there was no way the school could have taken any action.

The result: all five expelled because the principal would not use his discretion to mitigate the punishment for the boy. What a nice life lesson - you get punished for telling the truth.

Number Two:

19 year old boy has sex with his 16 year old girlfriend. Cops find them getting it on in the car. He's charged with statutory rape, and due to mandatory sentencing, he gets two years. The girl's parents knew about the relationship, and had no objections. The girl was mature and clearly could consent to the relationship.

Number Three:

High school girls brings a midol to school. When it is found, she's suspended for the rest of the school year.

Number Four:

Every day, a high school student is bullied by a schoolmate. The student has his ear thumped, and the bully says stuff to the boy such as "your mother is a slut". The student repeatedly asks the bully to refrain. Finally, the boy gets fed up and punches the bully in the nose, breaking his nose.

Absolutely NO consideration of the torment. Since it was not self-defense, the boy was expelled AND charged with assault. The jury, being much smarter than the school administration, found the student "not guilty" of assault, and the woman who was selected foreman of the jury told the court that "that boy needed a whipping."

In fact, it was stupid that I had to post that, but it is a fair comment on some of the posts here.

There have been two times in my life where I've become personally aware of a male child molester fiddling around with young boys. In both instances, the molester was associated with a church.

My oldest son came home from school one day and said he wanted to go workout at one of the local churches. I questioned him about the circumstances. He said that his friend Daniel (fictitious name), who I knew, attends the church and the church has a new associate youth minister who helps the younger teens (junior high and early h.s.) work out. I ask "how old is this guy"? My son says "Charlie (again, a pseudonym) is late 20's.

Wife hears the conversation and immediately intervenes. "Is he married?" "No, he lives at home with his mother."

"Is he recently divorced (e.g. living at home due to recent divorce)?" "No, he's never been married."

Wife says "No normally adjusted guy that age would still be living at home with mom AND working out with early teen boys. He'd be working out with guys his own age."

I say "you are not going to that workout." Son raises hell, says we are just being biased against this particular church (which was partially true, they were a bunch of bible thumpers).

He didn't go. One month later, the guy is busted for taking a video of a 13 year old whacking off.

That's when my son learned that teenagers do not "know it all."

P.S. That guy was not "gay", he was a maladjusted sex deviant.
