Relax.

In November Californian voters will have the opportunity to vote for a Constitutional Amendment defining marriage as one man one woman.

8 years ago Californians voted YES to defending traditional marriage and God Willing they will do likewise in November

I don't believe that God is a big fan of bigotry.

It would be more like, "The proposition might pass IN SPITE of what Jesus would say."

Bigotry is a social disease.

Legalized same-sex marriage almost certainly benefits those same-sex couples who choose to marry, as well as the children being raised in those homes. - David Blankenhorn is president of the New York-based Institute for American Values and the author of "The Future of Marriage."

So why aren't you crusading to get an "Anti-Divorce" law amended to various state constitutions? I mean, if it's "the sanctity of marriage" that you're so worried about defending, and you already admitted that divorce is "destructive to the institution of marriage"?

Or at least change the existing DOMA amendments to say "between a man and a woman, without provision for divorce"?

Could it possibly be because you don't really give a damn about marriage, just about gay marriage?

That's a rhetorical question, by the way - we all know the answer already.

I don't believe divorce should be outlawed but I do think marriage AND divorce should require a lot more qualification.

I think that the institution of marriage has been changing since it's inception. Otherwise, there wouldn't be any women lining up to get married, because it was simply a tool for a man to obtain property and status. It has been a tool of enslavement for women, historically. If that hadn't changed, there wouldn't be many independent women searching for a husband. I'm surpirsed that gary isn't clamoring for marriage to get back to it's roots. Because that would be protecting the traditional istitution of marriage.

We know you always take the side of the supposedly oppressed woman!

It would be equally accurate to say that historically marriage was a tool for women to avoid responsibility and leech on to a man as a lifelong meal ticket!

And that is where you are wrong, gary. Please get a clue about the institution that you so vociferously defend.

Why?

Isn't it true that for centuries women were able to depend on their husbands to provide for them?

if their husbands were rich and were amenable to giving the wives money

I don't believe poor men gave much provision to their wives - and the wives were usually unable to contribute by working

In which case they were dependent on their husbands - as I said
