| I have to laugh at that kind of stuff, too. As if the majority of gay people didn't grow up in homes that were not particularly "pro-gay" already LOL. I got a kick out of Randall Terry who wrote all those How to Raise Straight Kids books. He is very active in the anti-gay political arena - he also is one of the founders of the seriously organized anti-abortion organizations. He used to be a minister, but lost his church due to losing his tax exempt status for engaging in political lobbying. Anyway, when his son came out as gay, LOL, he just about pitched a fit. LOL Turns out, it wasn't really HIS fault the kid was gay - the kid was adopted and they didn't receive him until he was a couple of months old. There was something, apparently, done wrong in those first 45-60 days of life that turned the kid gay. LOL You know, you just can't make up stuff this good. LOL The only thing that teaching kids that gay is "wrong" does is makes the gay kids who are taught this to isolate and remove themselves from their families. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| But kids need to be taught right from wrong in their dealings with the world around them. Kids need to be taught what are acceptable behaviors in society and those that are not acceptable. 'Gay' is wrong to the majority of Americans in our country. It is not an acceptable behavior in society. | And, as I said, by teaching your children this, if yoiu should happen to have a gay child, it will cause him to isolate and remove himself from your family. If you have a gay child, and you are espousing this kind of bigory, the child will grow up with low self-esteem, fear of intimacy and the knowledge he will have to lie to his parents to "survive." You also must be aware that, whether or not most Americans are in favor of gay marriage, that MOST Americans are well aware that gay people are a part of society, make valuable contributions to society, and DO accept them. The only thing that ranting about the 'evils' of being gay does, is teach your children that you are intolerant and incompassionate - and how to lie. Seriously. Do you truly think that gay people grow up in households that deify gay people???? Do you sincerely think all those gay people in Alabama and Arkansas and Georgia and Texas grew up in families that didn't teach them that gay was somehow "wrong?" Just what do you think that teaching kids gay is horrible does? If the kids are straight, it will only give them validation for being mean to gay people. And if they're gay, it will make them hold you in contempt and fear. Your preaching about 'gay is wrong' isn't going to keep some gay kid from being gay. It may keep him from being HONEST with you - but it won't keep him from being gay. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Bull. I raised 5 kids and they all know right from wrong. And they don't use the word "gay". They know the truth. Homosexuality is perversion. All the homo propaganda in the world 24 hours a day will not change that fact. Last edited by alias; 01-07-2007 at 12:17 PM. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| There is a LONG list of kids who were raised by parents who taught them "right from wrong" including prejudice towards gays where the kid involved turned out gay. "Teaching" your kids "right from wrong" and telling them that being gay is wrong DOES NOT prevent a kid from being gay. It's inherent. It's innate. This has been proven in a variety of ways. Even with kids of gays, with whom the anti-gay rhetoric would claim they would be more gay, are NO MORE LIKELY to be gay than kids of straight people. Quote:
But I imagine there are some parents who taught their kids that they couldn't use the word "African-American" or "black" either.... Quote:
The majority of people do not share the depths of your prejudice towards gays. And all the anti-gay propaganda in the world 24 hours a day will not change that fact... | foundit - I have to give you credit. Just as I did on the "other" boards. I've ended up putting alias on ignore, just as I had to do with garysher, etc. I just don't have the patience to correct the same lies, misrepresentations, deceits, dodges, and untrue 'facts.' It's not as if they learn - because once they've had the truth pointed out to them - they just dodge any further discussion of it - until the next day when they post the same - the EXACT same lies and misrepresentations as the day before! Amazing to me, really, that anybody takes that kind of person seriously. There is no question, very few children grow up in a household where the parents are saying to them daily, "now Bruce, I really hope you know that we're rooting for you to be gay...I think a lifetime of discrimination, hatred and bigotry should pay off your debt of causing me all those labor pains!" I'm surprised that anybody actually thinks that "teaching" their children bigotry against gays is going to keep a child from being homosexuals. LOL That's one of the reasons I posted the story about Randall Terry...the king of the "raise your kids straight" mindset. I read in your quote that he taught his children to use slurs to indicate gay people. That kind of person is going to have such things come back and bite them in the ass someday. It's sad really. There has to be some kind of deeply ingrained, bitter, twisted psyche that thrives on belittling a law-abiding community of STRANGERS. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| You are aware that a significant portion of the population does not see homosexuality as negative, right? It's not like it's 1% of the population or something, and even so, nobody can define anything like homosexuality as "right" or "wrong." It's an act, plain and simple. Your justification is based on personal feelings and thoughts, not hard facts. Feelings lend credence to some issues, such as those of justice or equality, and then it's completely neutral, but just hating something because you think it's disgusting isn't a politicl belief. | I agree wholeheartedly with you. There are many things that I don't find pleasant - in fact, many things that I find repulsive. Fat chicks in spandex pants with camel toe. Fat men without belts who bendover and show their flabby butts. Teenagers with too many piercings in their face. People who get drunk and vomit. People who pick their noses at redlights. Unattractive men who are even uglier drag queens. Bigots and intolerant people of any kind. But I don't think I've ever suggested that they not be given equal rights as citizens. And more importantly, I don't sit around and THINK about it all day and all night long. It does seem that anti-gay bigots think waaaaaaay more about gay sex (most of the time gay MALE sex only) than any gay man does. That can't be a healthy pathology. | |||||||||||||||||||||
