Unhappy Britain's Blair says he is resigning
TRIMDON, England - Tony Blair said Thursday he would step down as prime minister on June 27, closing a decade of power in which he fostered peace in Northern Ireland and followed the United States to a war in Iraq that cost him much of his popularity.

Britain's Blair says he is resigning - Yahoo! News

I was saddened by the news... but he spent nearly a decade in office. I wish him good luck in his future endeavors.

Destroyed by Iraq. He was actually quite popular in the UK until he decided to stop being the Prime Minister and take up a new post as George Bush's poodle. Now he's pretty much hated in the UK.

And this same thing was on BC forums as an April fools joke!
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong. ~Richard Armour

LOL! Mind you, he's been promising to stand down for the last three years. Longest "goodbye" note in history!

I don't think Gordon Brown will last very long.

At least Tony had some personality, Brown is just a dour curmudgeon from north of the border!

It's amazing that Americans like Blair so much even though he's a lifelong Socialist ( allegedly).

I think Blair lived off the achievements of Maggie Thatcher, especially on the economy

What about the Tory leader, Cameron, will he be the PM after Brown?

Don't you think this is a lovely opportunity for the Monster Raving Looney Party to step in and take power?

The credit for Northern Ireland needs to go to John Major. Most of the hard work was done between the start of the process in 1993 and the Good Friday Agreement which was signed only 11 months after Blair took office.

'Fostered' is the right word because he had nothing to do with it's conception, birth or early life. He just watched over it as it grew.

Alas the Monster Raving Loony Party never fully recovered from the sad demise of its founder and leader, Screaming Lord Sutch!

Pity I would have loved to see him in a joint press conference with Pres Bush!
