Very simple, one man marrying one woman to raise their children as a family

But I think you knew that

Want to see the Biblical Standard of marriage and family? Look at the families in the Biblical record. God's Chosen People sure did have themselves a time with hundreds of wives and concubines, kids being born and jealousies, strife and friction. Hatred, murder, deceit...all in the family.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Why do you think this is a Biblical standard of marriage?

Read Matthew 19

I just don't get that Christian mantra...traditional marriage. Traditional Schmaditional is what I say.

The Bible did speak out against male temple prostitutes and pederasty.

Did you know Garysher that this Good Book also says that if a farmer is not in the faith, and he is out plowing his field, his plowing his field is counted against him as sin?

I tell you what, you go round up all those faithless farmers, and rail on them for awhile. Cos a man like you has to aim his hate spiel somewhere, I would guess.

Your post didn't make much sense

Gary, I got one more question for you, Sir. Why do you refer to Matthew 19 for the picture of a traditional marriage, and yet God evidently blessed and condoned many other forms of matrimony recorded in the Bible?

Did God gain a sense of moral indignation by the time he got to Matthew 19 or what?

I'm unpersuaded.
How do you define "good Christian lives"?
My mother was a devout Christian, as was her mother before her.
But they didn't exercise rude judgements about matters that are none of their business.

1. Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured unto you." Matthew 7:1-2

Let's not make the good the enemy of the ideal here gary.
This metaphorical wall may never be perfect.
That doesn't mean we should allow it to be torn down.
Just remember the wisdom of Robert Frost.

"Good fences make good neighbors."
Quote:
"How can you expect people to abandon their religious beliefs (or lack thereof) when they go to vote, or carry out their responsibilities as legislators?" gary
It wouldn't occur to me.

But in the United States of America, religion is entitled to certain generous considerations. But they come at modest cost.

Churches can exist, essentially tax free.
But in exchange for this tax exemption, they are obliged to stay out of politics.
Sometimes this requirement is flagrantly violated.

It is a detriment to the system.

This wall of separation between Church & State protects both.

Allowing miscreants to clamor over it threatens both.

Preaching how to be right with god is within any Reverend's purview.
Preaching how to be right with the Republican party is not.

I agree with that and I'm amazed at the blatant support for the Republican Party, and attacks on the Democrats, that I hear on Christian talk radio

I agree churches shouldn't be tax-exempt when they openly support a political party

Even if that's true, it doesn't mean we shouldn't continue to try.
But if we try to keep church and state separate then should we also try to keep atheism and state separate? Or any other strongly held belief?

You would have to ask Jesus Christ. He is the one who defines marriage in Matt 19

And you know full well what traditional marriage has meant in western culture for centuries

You may not agree with that definition but please don't pretend it doesn't exist!
