If you are talking like the Waltons. I love what they had. I aspire to know love like that. Whether I submit my love to the dotted line of some governmental issued piece of paper ever again, I cannot say.
But you know what, in strictly traditional Christian marriage, the Waltons would have been "unequally yoked" for how Big John was agnostic and Olivia was the more fundamental Christian.

Blarney! I will gladly edit my post, but truly I do not know what I said that was in any way a religious slur. Please do point it out. I want to grow and learn and change.

As to me being a girlie, I am. But that does not enter into it, Gary. I can take it like a man, when the going gets rough.

You sound a bit bitter OD!

If a marriage fails it's not the fault of the institution of marriage. It means two people made the wrong decision or didn't have the fortitude to make it work

But you know what, in strictly traditional Christian marriage, the Waltons would have been "unequally yoked" for how Big John was agnostic and Olivia was the more fundamental Christian.

I think it's better to use the Bible as the foundation of your beliefs and not some cheesy TV show!

Now that is funny. I am not bitter at all. I just don't know what making love legal does for it. I am not saying I would not. But if I fall in love with a man who did not want to turn our relationship over to the government to register it as a marriage, I would not necessarily think I ought to say goodbye to that man.

Biblical marriage was not kept by the government either, was it?

It is not bitterness that gives me to consider options, but quite the opposite.

P.S. I love The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie. Nothing "cheesy" there. That was not nice to say Gary.

It doesn't sound like that

Why do you describe marriage as "making love legal"?

Marriage is all about you and your partner, the government is just on the sidelines making sure you both meet the criteria.

Bit like getting your driving licence from the DMV

OK I'll go from cheesy to "chewing gum for the eyes"

I still don't think any TV show should be made into your Guide to Life (with the possible exception of The Simpsons)

"But if we try to keep church and state separate then should we also try to keep atheism and state separate? Or any other strongly held belief?" gary
I'm not sure that takes much effort.
It might be akin to the effort necessary to keep gravity working.

"The wall of separation between Church & State" is a metaphor gary.

It means we should not mingle governance; prevent it from becoming theocratic.
If you're asking me if I think that should include atheism; I think yes.

I think governance must remain agnostic.

I strongly believe the right of Liberty should neither be infringed, or usurped.
I don't think U.S. government should eschew that principle.
I think we must embrace it.
It is, in fact, a Founding principle of the United States of America.

According to each of the signatories of the U.S. Declaration of Independence Liberty is a Creator endowed, unalienable right.

Let neither my People, nor my government ever forsake that notion!

Bzzz, wrong answer, Gary! LOL It isn't bitterness to see that the government cannot enhance love. And you only want to paint me as bitter, and you know what, all of my ex husbands would disagree with you.

There is a huge difference between having religious people influence government and creating a theocracy!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

My point is if you ONLY separate Church and State, then by default you give an advantage to any other NON-religious interest group, such as pro-abortionists or homosexuals.

They don't have to deal with the same restrictions when dealing with the government

According to each of the signatories of the U.S. Declaration of Independence Liberty is a Creator endowed, unalienable right.

Let neither my People, nor my government ever forsake that notion!
How do atheists and agnostics deal with the notion that certain rights are "Creator endowed"?
