"From the polls I have read most Americans are for keeping abortion legal. That cannot be said for the gay marriage issue though." hev
hev,
It seems to me you're imbalancing ~3 different perspectives here.
There's the general public, which is a mix of Democrats, Republicans, and independents.
Then there's the Democrat perspective. The 3rd is the Republican.

I agree about general polls supporting abortion.

But we prejudice the issue when we present it from any of these 3 perspectives.

"Abortion" is the unbiased issue.
"Keeping abortion legal" may be the general public's perspective, and seems to be the Democrat's perspective as well.
"Criminalizing abortion" is the political agenda of the Republicans.

See?

I'm not sure I do see your point.

I was simply implying there was a majority view of Americas in favor of keeping abortion legal in America.

I like your inter-racial quote. Right on the money.

Republicans, because the only strong Democrat is Dennis Kucinich, while multiple strong Republicans such as Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo, and Ron Paul; the rest are moderates appealing to special interests. Thats what a moderate is, by the way.

That's kind of what I've noticed. Dennis Kucinich seems to be really the only truly liberal choice. And many argue that Ron Paul is the only truly conservative choice. While the others are, like you say, moderates appealing to special interests.

But here is where I differ; which party has the stronger candidates? I would say the Democrats, mainly going by polls which lead us to believe that Democrats are happier with their candidates than Republicans are with theirs. However, which party has strong candidates? Neither.

Obama is not as liberal as Kucinich? I beg to differ.

Obama is, I'd say, just left of center. I've read his book. So far it seems as if Kucinich has the only truly liberal policies... I mean it's across the board; from war (maybe minus Gravel) to and especially health care (his is the only truly universal, free, non-profit health care plan; everyone else relies on failed policies of relying on the insurance companies which are just a racket in the first place).

I must admit that I was greatly impressed with everything Kucinich had to say during the debates. He doesn't seem to have enough charisma to take his ideas all the way however.

Too bad our current system really boils down to a popularity contest because of the two party strangle hold.

Kucinich ain't a dem! But he could be the future.
