Doesn't the House of Representatives exist so each state has representation in accordance with its population? The Senate was created so each state would have equal representation. Am I missing something?

1) no problem with it.

2) I wish Larry had offered an alternative to debate. Stating the obvious is boring

3) Larry's argument about the selfish whims of a few states sounds silly. Campaigns take advantage of the current system and any campaign strategist worth spit will find a way to do so to any new system. But again Larry offered no alternative to debate.

I like the electoral college system. I agree with the gentleman above on it's merits. I don't think it is broken.

4) For me more thought is going into this one. It touches the very foundations of what makes America a nation as opposed to a single entity, alone in the world.

---

I believe the argument for a Constitutional Convention is a good thing. Let us battle it out. I have faith that in the end the bs and deceit will fall away. The process is long and torturous. It separates the chaff from the wheat. Look at what happened in Massachusetts with the gay marriage issue.

easy and simple solutions and a rushed judgement based on populist anger and resentment went nowhere.

  • When you separate the wheat from the chaff, you select what is useful or valuable and reject what is useless or worthless.

You are missing nothing. There are valid arguments for restructuring it all, but that would mean getting a majority of the states to agree. The system is fine as it is. It needs tweaking. It may need a major overhaul in some areas, but just where those areas lie needs to be laid out and debated.

This is important to Larry because political scientists need something to do to justify their salaries.

I agree except in this country not everyone is treated equally. LGBT people are still considered 2nd class citizens and are not able to be recognized as married in 49 states and zero federal recognition.

That fight will continue for a long time. But what has that to do with having a Constitutional Convention? Some Massachusetts residents (and many outsiders) want to have the CC in Mass do something about gay marriage. It was torturous and mind numbing, but justice won out. Justice may be blind, but she is not always stupid.

I want to point out to a few lying people in other forums where and who tried to spread that horrific topic into this thread.

Just saying.

It is a constitutional issue isn't it?

Of course LGBT people "are able to be recognized as married in 49 states".

So are polygamists, pedophiles and close relatives.

But they have to follow the same rules as anyone else.

BTW kev do you have to change every forum into a homosexual marriage discussion??
