Correction - he called a few individual Marines "cold blooded murderers," not all Marines.

War funding is a lot more complicated than you make it out to be. Even those against the war don't want to leave our soldiers stranded without the essentials they need to do their jobs.

Also, using one person (John Murtha) as a sweeping judgment on Democrats in general is intellectually dishonest.

A federal judge has ordered Rep. Jack Murtha (D-Pa.) to testify in a defamation case related to the deaths of Iraqi civilians in the town of Haditha in 2005, according to the Associated Press.
Murtha, a former Marine. accused Marines of "cold-blooded murder and war crimes'' during the Haditha incident. Frank Wuterich, a Marine sergeant involved in the incident, has sued Murtha for libel and invasion of privacy over his comments.
According to AP, U.S. District Judge Rosemary M. Collyer wants Murtha to explain why he made this statement and any documents he has related to the incident.
From the AP: 'You're writing a very wide road for members of Congress to go to their home districts and say anything they choose about private persons and be able to do so without any liability. Are you sure you want to do that?'' Collyer said, adding later, ''How far can a congressman go and still be protected?"

Thing is he made that statement about the Marines accused of murdering 24 civilians in the town of Haditha. The victims included women and very young children. Those children didn't shoot themselves and I can't see how they could sanely be considered a threat to the soldiers. The case was a mess from beginning to end and a lot of people feel some of the soldiers got off on a technicality.

I respect and support our troops. They're doing a very tough job. I'm anti-war - but my beef isn't with the troops at all. My beef is with the lying sack-o-crap administration that sent them into a war of choice.

That said, I'm not so naive that I think every soldier is pure as the driven snow. Every group has it's 'bad apples'; the military is no different. I think it's disgusting that so many choose to cover up for bad apples, regardless of their alleged crime, instead of getting to the truth and weeding out those who are a disgrace to the uniform. It's like the "blue wall" with police - it's disgusting.

Remember when NRA VP Wayne LaPierre called the police a bunch of jack-booted thugs? That comment by him resulted in former president George H.W. Bush (and a few others) tear up his NRA membership card.

Good grief!! The police have a hard enough job as it is, and for LaPierre to criticize them is unfair. I always respect the police, and they always are in the hotseat when it comes to dealing with crime, especially if they have to shoot the bad guys when in self-defense.

I don't know if LaPierre ever took back his comments.

The JAG at Camp Pendleton are now pretty busy with the court martials of the Marine soldiers who committed crimes in Iraq.

As I recall, these Marines recently have been cleared of all wrong doing.
The video that was used by the US media to portray this incident can be found on youtube.
What triggered an investigation was a Time magazine report.
Time magazine said they interviewed witnesses of the incident, that were found to be lacking credibility.

I'm sure they are. A lot of horrible things happen during war, some intentional and some not. That is why war should only be waged as a very last resort (self-defense). It brings out the worst in people - and those who have to fight are rarely ever the same.

So did those unarmed women and children take rifles away from US Marines and shoot themselves?

Does this mean you would find soldiers guilty of murder without a fair trial?
Should soldiers be found guilty by a signed petition?

No, Mr. Strawman, everyone deserve a fair trial. From all I've read, the trial wasn't exactly fair. That said, you failed to answer my question:

Did those unarmed women and children take rifles away from US Marines and shoot themselves?

What possible defense could an armed Marine have for shooting unarmed women and toddlers?
