Help raise the minimum wage.
Begin by calling the CEOs of some Republican contributors and tell them unless you get the congress to raise the minimum wage, you will no longer buy their products.

You can begin by calling the CEO of Dell Computers, Walmart, Wendy's, Outback Steakhouse, Olive Garden and Red Lobster.

Yeah I second that call. The CEO of Dell computers in 2003 made 235,000,000 so yeah no wonder why these people are getting paid minimum wage. How the heck can you spend that kind of money? Its just a sad example of how people have lost all morals.
As I leave you with restless liars and dealers on the take

Your solution is no solution at all.

You cannot just create high paying jobs out of thin air. Nor should people who are nominally employable expect to get big money for low-skill work.

The market will pay what the market will bear.

If you don't like what you're being paid at your current job, you can do what people in America have been doing for years.
1. Get an education.
2. Work hard at your current job.
3. Get a different job that pays more.
4. Move, if you must, to where you can get a job that pays more.

1) Folks on minimum wage will afford it how?
2) And this affects the minimum wage how?
3) Still has no affect on the pathetic minimum wage that millions of adults are forced to work in America.
4) You can move to where the minimum wage is higher than the federal standards... they are still pathetic wages.

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

1. A GED or community college aren't that expensive, and they really increase your job selection pool.

2. Point taken. You can be the best burger flipper ever, but it doesn't mean you'll get a livable wage.

3. This goes back to number one.

4. Raising minimum wage will just cause layoffs, resulting in higher unemployment. Minimum wage should only be raised when the country isn't in recession... Unless you buy into Keynesian economics.

Sometimes, you can get a better paying job elsewhere. The internet is a great place to look.

A GED?? Burger flipping will continue at non livable wages.

Higher unemployment wouldn't be a bad thing if we provide good unemployment benefits for people.

My whole deal is this... if you are an adult in America it doesn't matter what kind of job you have, be it garbage man, burger flipper, or paperboy, you SHOULD make a livable working wage. I would say triple the current minimum wage is getting there and would be fair at this point in the inflation game.

Although I am against raising minimum wage substantially as it will cause higher unemployment numbers, why not make everyone happy and raise minimum wage according to Consumer Price Index??

This is the consumer price index from 1996-Current:
http://data.bls.gov/PDQ/servlet/Surv...A0,CUUS0100SA0

This is the minimum wage when first amended:
http://www.dol.gov/esa/minwage/chart.htm

Since CPI increases every year due to inflation, why not slowly raise minimum wages instead of a large increase every 5 years so it wouldn't have such a negative effect??

That's my solution.

Why not provide a wage that adults can live off of and create a bigger budget for unemployment funds?

well gentlemen i'm gonna add my two cents..

WELFARE STATE

It works dude.. it really does. Tell the top 5% earners in the US to pay an extra 10% in tax.. will that affect anything other than the fact that these people will get richer at a lesser rate?

Use this money to subsidize minimum wage. Or spend the money on education.. or on a million other things that the US can't "afford".

Alternatively buy a few weapons less for the army. Or de-commission a nuke or two. These are all billion dollar costs. Are they more important than people having a decent wage? Nobody even comes CLOSE to america's military strength.. how much stronger does it need to be??
