5. Tyler | I am basically with you on FDR. Most presidential historians agree that he was one of our greatest presidents. However, most of the social programs we have today originated during his time in office. Many of these programs have turned into handouts that are often abused. Still, it is hard to argue with the many great achievement he made from a country in a depression and through the years of WWII.

5. Tyler | I totally agree with you on Lincoln. Furthermore, I think that this country needs a Lincoln to come along right about now. However, I don't see that happening at the present (for reasons I won't go into).
I will say this: For all I know, this forum may contain a future Lincoln (I believe that if Lincoln were alive today, he would be on the internet, speaking to whomever would listen).
So, to everyone on DtT - Keep up the good work and don't ever stop thinking! |

The way they dismantle a person's past and examine every detail with microscope-like scrutiny mean many people would just rather stay out of it. Everyone has skeletons, and it seems the more successful you are, the bigger the closet.

Let's not forget Thomas Jefferson, he had children from a black bed wench. |

Just curious. There is a reason I ask. And that is because Licoln was sometimes deeply disliked for his strong federal government postion and actions. I think today, Libertarians and Conservatives would have a HUGE problem with Lincoln and his tactics in regards to the Civil War. Big federal government, with too much power, forcing it's will upon the states and the people. (In order to save the Untied States, and the union.) |

I will say this: What I did mean when I said that we need another Lincoln is that we need a president with honesty and integrity who thinks for themselves - frankly, I wouldn't care what party such a candidate fell under, I would vote for them.
On a side note - Abe was (for the most part) self educated, meaning that he read a lot and took most of his education from books. In other words, he was not indoctrinated by government schools, religion or anyone else but himself.
I believe that if Abe were alive today, he would form his own party and to hell with everyone else. . .
That's the kind of president I believe we need. |

Boy, they were classics.
