Media spin is the hardest thing to gauge too. In my AP Gov. class this year, we had pretty much one of the top men for Accenture visit our class. His son graduated from my school the year before. He describe media spin for us. His company is a government contract company, working internationally for many governments. Accenture is incorporated in Bermuda, but the branch he works for is based in the U.S. and they have thousands of U.S. employees. His company won the $10 billion contract from the Department of Homeland Security for basically technology that's going to put all immigration, visas etc. on computer (and they'll be able to do track people on computer.) This work is going to be done in the U.S. and will be worked on by American scientists etc. Yet, when it came out in the media, the first headline was "Department of Homeland Security awards $10 billion conract to Bermuda company." This came out when outsourcing was a big election issue. Now, I'm a liberal, but this is just an example of the kind of spin the media can put on a story. They create impressions of everything for the public. You can't trust everything you see, certainly. The man who visited, Mr. Cole, said "the media is the fourth branch of the government."
But it don't take much to get me by
So just booze me up and get me high

It's just so damn selfish and barbaric to me, but what do I know I'm just brain-washed by Bush and his cabinet. Get Real!

No offense, Tadpole, but I would really like to know how I am less safe due to the Patriot Act.
I had to scream out loud when I read this, just to calm down. I demand that you go back and re-read this entire thread, all of it.

1) I never said you are less safe. I said you are no safer. There is a HUGE difference, and if you do not understand that difference I have neither the time nor the inclination to make up for the faults in the Nebraska school system.

2) This being said, and hopefully now CLEAR, the rest of your post is meaningless. No one wants to be bombed. But I will not sacrifice my freedom for anything. Too many people died to give it to me. Since we are NO safer, there is no reason to sacrifice freedoms. Are you that scared? Honestly? Do you think the bad Arab man will come get you while you are sleeping? I am much more scared of my government than I am of any terrorist. I work for the government, I know what they are capable of and what they do, and I also know the mathematical odds of being the victim of a terrorist attack...
There are no faults in the Nebraska school system, I simply asked you how we are no more safe than before but you have avoided anwering me, thats all I am asking.
How are we no safer? What has been done to make us safer? How does harassment make us safer? Do you really think that anyone who wants a target bad enough will not get it? Here's a hint, we were not unsafe before 9/11.

An attack like 9/11 requires years of planning and a great deal of coordination, research, and organization. The Patriot Act is not just going to stop the resolve in the hearts of the terrorists.

This is exactly my point. The people we are dealing with have a terrible resolve, and will not be so much as slowed down by a peice of OUR legislation. Because here is a clue, our laws only apply to us, and only effect, us. If I am willing to blow my ass up, do you think I care about your quaint laws? And do you think I am going to communicate in ways that you will be able to track and intercept? Don't be foolish.

Expecting to gain safety through harrasment of our own polulace will make a lot of people feel like real assholes after the next successful strike. But I suspect our good little Bush zealots will still spew his filthy philosophies, and defend his horriffic actions, and will probably react in an even more ridiculous extreme.

Well that is your opinion and you are granted that. Nut you have yet failed to even tell me how I am no more safe than what I was before.
Godbless, Tadpole.
