You stick with the group that represents MOST of your ideas. Nobody is going to agree with another human being on every subject of life let alone an entire political group.

If a president does wat you suggest ("We should give ourselves more credit, and work harder to acheive what we want based on our own individual beliefs.") then he will only be representing himself...

I'm 28, you decide if that's really young. I don't think I'm rude in the least, but I am very straight forward and matter-of-fact. I am in the military, I don't have time to wipe noses and hold hands, if you can't stand the heat...

...don't debate here.
Tadpole is not immaturem like he said he is straight forward. when he is "immature" he is only joking everybody has to loosen up sometime.

Well of course the president can't just represent himself, he has to represent the people. That is exactly what I'm saying. The people's voices have to be stronger, all different perspectives. There are too many people in the minority that are not being heard, and have good ideas for change.
How can any leader do a proper job if he does not have information from every perspective, and make an informed decision? People don't think they can make an impression as individuals, but they can.

like you said earlier, most people have to the thoughts and ideas but lack the motivation to go through or attempt to go through with them. which sucks. i always wanted to write a senator or political official a letter saying that something needs to be fixed that is going wrong, but i havent found any issues that strike me as extremely messed up yet important at the same time that havent been being debated by our politicians.

But don't you think that shouldn't matter? You know, I see changes happening in places everyday. Because the government, or corporations, or whoever is involved, get so inindated with letters, calls, faxes, etc. that they give the people what they are asking for.
Even if it seems like a waste of time, it isn't. Even if it seems like it's too late, it isn't. There is always another election anyway. People can campaign with the next election in mind.
As for things not being important enough, or messed up enough. There are a ton of things going on in the world. They are all important. Even little things can have a huge impact on societies. To look at first glance, they may not seem that way, but then you scratch beneath the surface, and it's scary.

Whereas I tend to agree with you, you have to admit, it's really hard for the average working Joe to find the time to keep up with, let alone care about, things that are going on in other parts of the world. In general people tend to care about things that effect, or could effect them. If it has no apparent effect on them, they typically don't care. And whereas that may suck, I can not fault anyone for feeling that way. Life is short, and for the average person there is a lot to be done just to survive, we can't all be activists.

No, we can't all be activists. But you know, I left my very abusive husband a year ago. I am still fighting him, because the court system doesn't care. I could be disheartened and give up, but no, that will never do.
I work and go to school because I want a degree, and a better life for me and my son. I spend all of my spare time with my son. I owe thousands of dollars in legal costs, and haven't gotten a penny from divorce yet. I help my boss with her legal issues. I do tons of research because I am interested in things, and because I care. I'm thinking of starting a non-profit organization. I want to help people, and empower people who have been vicitmized like I have. But even if they don't have a situation like mine, I hear about something happening in Iceland, and I want to help them too. Yes, I do feel very overwhelmed at times. I don't think I can do enough.
I don't think I am a saint by any means, or that everyone should follow my example. But I do find it very hard to believe that people wouldn't care. I guess I'm idealistic. I envision a better world.
