| take a look at the truth check out this siteThe Politics of Law Enforcement The last four years are proof of the dangers of leaving law enforcement to the devices of the major political parties. In 2002, I wrote: This year's Sheriff's race is particularly important to the Democrat and Republican parties, who are struggling for political supremacy in Marion County. Law enforcement is not as important to them as political power. Oddly, in this instance, being a Libertarian is an advantage. Don't let them use your hopes for a safer community to further their political agendas. Be wary of promises made that would benefit certain voter groups. Keep in mind that crime in the Sheriff's Department jurisdiction was up 14% last year, mainly in violent and property crimes; the jail is overcrowded, leading to early releases; an innocent man was killed in his own home by a Deputy; assets are seized from individuals not charged with a crime; 10% of drunk driving charges are dropped because Deputies fail to show up in court; $600,000 in asset forfeiture proceeds disappeared; and the Sheriff pockets about $60,000 per year in addition to his salary from delinquent tax collections. These are the problems that must be addressed now. With some minor updating, the same is true this year. I had hoped that Sheriff Anderson was going to take a principled stand when he opposed early consolidation efforts. I was disappointed, but not surprised, when he flip-flopped and went along with his political cohorts's plans. Consolidation will not lead to improved law enforcement, just more politicized law enforcement. Don't let politicians from either major party play their political games with your safety and security. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Well tonight for my professional communications class, our group (5 of us) gave a presentation where we were consultants for the administration of UCLA involving this incident. Our presentation was about 20 minutes long and following the questions at the end, I got in a pretty heated argument with a student of the classroom. The student was Iranian and had that look in his eye like I was the worst enemy he has ever met. He claimed that the student had no time to react when he was tased and the cops used excessive force. I responded and yet again he attacked me saying that the student had roughly 2 seconds to respond when in fact the student had well over 30 seconds to actually get his ass up off the ground. I mentioned that the student told the cops to F-off and that pretty much shut him up. I don't know how our group will be graded on this presentation, but i'll let you know. | |

| Good for you. Sounds like you did your homework and were ready with an answer when one of the punks tried to intimidate you. Good job. | |||||||||||||||||||||
