If he "deserves" anything then that would be laid out before him in a court of law, as would any "punishment". This is why we have a court system. If you want the police to hand out punishment on the spot without any chance to due process or argue your case, then you can go to China, or North Korea.

I don't care if the kid was yelling "Allah akbar" or "death to America"; an officer's job (especially campus security) isn't to deliver vigilante justice, or 'punishment' in any kind. They have a word for that my friend, it's tyranny.
I disagree. He leaves when asked, then there is no "tyranny". The courts are clogged enough without looking at every little punk that has his "rights" violated for breaking the law. Too bad it took the cops to spank his ass when his parents should have done it years ago to show him respect for authority.

FYI: University of California Police is a state police agency, with full arrest and law enforcement powers throughout the State of California.

"Police officers of the UCLA Police Department are duly sworn peace officers under section 830.2(b) of the California Penal Code. The officers of the department are armed and possess the same authority under the law as municipal police officers."

For the record, Tabatabainejad, was tased not because he didn't show his BruinCard the on duty student security, that only facilitated the response from of the police. Rather, Tabatabainejad was tased because when asked to leave, he was non-compliant and then when was escorted out, began to resist by struggling with officers... etc etc.

When you resist arrest (148PC), the outcome will not be pleasant. It doesn't matter what you did before hand, it's the resistance and delay that warrants use of force to facilitate the arrest in a safe and efficiant manner.

Thanks for replying and welcome to the forums.

I agree with your completely. I can't believe what the students were saying in the video as the cops were trying to do their job.

UCBRUIN is right. When a cop says to move out, you move out. I hope all the students learned something.

That analysis only looks at whether police cooperation exists, and then ignores the nature of any response if police cooperation doesn't exist.

You are wrong. Tyranny can exist if he doesn't leave when asked.
In fact, this whole situation took place AS HE WAS LEAVING.
It wasn't exactly after he was asked, but he WAS in the process of leaving when this altercation took place.

It's a good thing that we live in a society that doesn't grant the police such unrestricted and unquestioned power as you desire.

Baha'i...
Reading quickly over some of the past posts, it has been said that Tabatabainejad is muslim, which apparently is not the case:

Tabatabainejad was born in the United States and is Baha'i by religion and Iranian by descent.

Anybody want to touch the whole irony thing of how LucidThots would assume somebody was Jewish just based on the name, and how that is precisely what Alias did here?

Or was that just too easy...

Anybody want to touch the fact that foundit will defend a law breaker over the one who is enforcing the law?

You know as well as I do that 99.9% of people with a name like that would be muslim. It also would not too hard to assume he was a muslim because they are always playing the victim. No wonder you defend the little punk, you both have something in common. You both know how to play the victim.

Anybody want to point out to Alias that I AM NOT DEFENDING this guy at all?
I've pointed it out to him repeatedly, but of course it can't seem to sink into his skull that I am not defending him...

I know full well that you make up statistics as convenient for you...
YOU think that most people "with a name like that would be muslim", just like Lucy thought most people who had certain names would be Jewish.

You are exuding his religious racism...

Why?
Because alias says so, so it must be true....
