Chavez Wins. Will His Plan Work?
In an election of no surprised, Hugo Chavez wins re-election in Venezuela. A democratic country elects a socialist. Interesting.

So one of his stated goals is to redistrubute the enormous "oil wealth" to the poor of the country...

1. Is Chavez going to successfully redistribute the oil wealth to the poor of Venezuela, or will this be yet anothere socialist debacle?

2. Will Chavez succeed in turning Venezuela into a communists country?

3. How long will his "anti-America" hype work, before people turn on him?

4. Will Chavez actually serve out his new 6-year term, or will be be "run out" of office, or assassinated?

Your thoughts?

My guess is that he'll be deposed, or assassinated, before his new 6-year term expires.

I doubt Chavez will consolidate powers into the executive like Castro. It would be contrary to a lot of what he speaks about. I'm pretty sure Venezuela will redistribute the oil wealth to the poor. However, that is not to say there isn't the possibility of another Castro. After all, Castro rose to power on democratic socialist and anti-Imperialism rhetoric much like Chavez (albeit a militarized rise), and considering the people Chavez hangs out with, I don't think we should rule out the possibility that he'll make Venezuala into a dictatorship. Although the Venezuelans would probably throw him out if he tried.

He never said anything about Communism.

It'll work so long as the US foreign policies continue to give credence to his anti-Imperialist rhetoric.

The people voted him in, and three years later when a rightest tried to take power in a military coup, the people and loyal soldiers successfully formed a popular counter-coup and got Chavez back into power. They voted him in for a second term in a landslide. Of coarse, like any democratic nation, there are those that dislike their leader and those that like their leader, but I doubt he will be assassinated or thrown out of power unless he tries to do a power grab and follow the footsteps of Castro (unless of coarse the CIA pulls one off).

Personally, Kat, I believe that Chavez will not serve out his full term.

If (more likely, "when") some of his promises don't come to be, I think the people will turn on him - much like many Iranians are apparently beginning to turn on President Asswipe over there.

Kooks like Chavez don't make good leaders. They make good rabble-rousers, but not good leaders.

My guess is that he's out of office - in one way or another - within 2-3 years.

I'm sure there is someone somewhere plotting to take him out. Good luck and good night.
