| I'd just like to comment on how refreshing it is to see such reflection and objectivity on how other nations might percieve you guys. I don't think I'm wrong in saying that the image portrayed in the media over here (The UK) is that any internal dissent about US foriegn policy is somehow surpressed due to an innate urge to remain united in the face of criticism and right behind your President when attacked by foriegners. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Yeah, I know. We sometimes get the impression, as portrayed by popular culture and/or the media that the Office of President of the USA is considered by many in your country to be almost beyond reproach. I know that that's probably not true but it's taken quite a long time, plenty of gaffs and a slow realisation regarding Iraq to turn things around, hasn't it. Tony Blairs "honeymoon" was unprecedented, in terms of length, over here. We're usually dissin the PM, without mercy, the day after he/she's elected. | |||||||||||||||||||||

I'm not sure self-delusion makes sense; though many millions of Americans do it anyway. Quote:
Admittedly, much of Bush issues popularity polls in the 30's%; among the whole People. But among Republicans, I've recently seen recent approval stats in the ~70%s on some issues. But Republicans tend to be more loyal to party than they are to country. "Work is the curse of the drinking classes." Oscar Wilde | |||||||||||||||||||||||

| For a start, do other countries around the world particularly want America to be, as it were, the Global Police? And if not, is it right to force that situation on them? I think it is the duty of a socially concious society to consider how they are viewed by the rest of the world. Most Americans are not the loud, brash asshole cowboys we are perceived as... That's just the republicans... They are like our "Special Needs" children... | I imagine a lot of the "honeymoon" was sheer relief at getting away from the Tories. "All things appear and disappear because of the concurrence of causes and conditions. Nothing ever exists entirely alone; everything is in relation to everything else." -- The Buddha | |||||||||||||||||||||
