I'm curious...?
I'm curious...?

What does everybody think about what would have happened if the US and coalition forces had not invaded Iraq in 2003?

(I'm not necessarily looking for debate concerning this question, I'm just curious about what people think might have happened.)

I think they would have carried on sorting out their own problems in their own way, and should certainly have been left alone to do so.

I think the US would have invaded in 2004 or 2005. Saddam would have gone on playing provocative mind games, the emergence of Iran and N. Korea as nuclear threats would have compelled the US to demonstrate what the fuck happens. Under the circumstances Iraq would probably be the easiest option. Teach a few lessons, send a few signals, get bases and oil. It was bound to happen sooner or later given the players involved. Had Saddam done a Gaddiffi, things might have been totally different, he could, once again have become useful.

I concur, and I think we would have been much more effective in Afghanistan, we'd be much further along by now.
Fight the good fight, and die with the enemy's heart in your hand.

Given the history of Iraq and Saddam's actions prior to the US and coalition invasion of 2003, I tend to agree with what you have stated regarding an eventual invasion of Iraq at a later date if it didn't happen in 2003 by the US and coalition forces.

And I firmly believe that Saddam wouldn't have backed down at all to ever-increasing UN sanctions and the more isolated the Iraq government and nation would have become, as a result, would have hurt the Iraqi public much more than it would have hurt the Iraqi regime.

Personally speaking, I think people tend to have "selective memories."
