I heard that the Falcons can go back and try to get some of his signing bonus back. That would really suck. Considering he had barely started on his "real" contract, how much money could he realistically have left? Legal fees too. The guy is financially toasted.

I can't think of a case involving an NFL player worse than this. It is easy that these guys should police themselves. Under the new NFL's commissioner's first year, he had a rough year dealing with the bad boys of the NFL.

That party boat incident was pretty bad though. Personally I place that behavior worse than Vick's. Just maybe not as illegal.

I still don't have all that much of a problem with Vick dog fighting. But turning it into the "operation" level that he had was what brought him down.
He was just a dumas with too much money and time.

Look at this this way, FX: Aren't all professional athletes supposed to be role models for kids? We would not want to see a professional athlete like Vick "lure" kids into dogfighting.

Playing football in a park, backyard, wherever, is what kids need to enjoy. Same with baseball. Dogfighting is not something that kids should be doing.

Dennis Rodman is not one I want my kids to emulate and he's rather scandal free.
As far as Vick's dogfighting, no one would have ever known if it weren't for the media. It's not like Vick had commercials or something. "My" kid would follow Peyton Manning or somebody like that. Somebody with "real" talent and half a brain. I've never been all that impressed with Vick. On or off the field.

If I ever had kids, I would certainly want them to follow players like Manning, Philip Rivers, La Danian Tomlinson, to name a few.

As for Rodman: Yuck!!! Boy, if ever there was a flamboyant dresser, whew!!!!

Luckily after saying that the reason he did it was 'the culture' of Urban black youth ..(I should think Urban Black Youth would want him to STFU and not speak for them considering it makes Urban black youth sound like a pack of criminals)...Vick has found Jesus..Here I was thinking Jesus was omnipresent and thus couldn't actually be lost or found but I guess I was mistaken.....so we should just all forgive him now because he knows what he was doing was bad. I'd argue he knew already what he was doing was bad considering he tried to hide what he was doing and thren made excuses for his behavior..but nontheless another 'Star' who did something bad and criminal has convieniently found Jesus

Yes, he will be out of significant money for awhile. That signing bonus; if I understand the reports correctly, is close to 22 million dollars. Quite a penalty. But, let's not forget that he chose to engage in this behavior. He must suffer the consequences. The interstate commerce law broken will not be that much of a problem for Vick. What will he get? Two or three years, tops; and a fine?
The real story is the dogfighting. While I, like many others, am sickened by this by this because of my love for dogs; the idea that Vick personally took partin the killing of non-performing dogs is what the media is really beating to death. There really is not much difference, sadly; in this behavior than what happens to greyhounds at a dog track, as I posted awhile ago.The only story is that a celebrity athlete participated in such.
I also said I feel sorry for Vick in a way. That hasn't changed. What I'm sorry for is that he is being tried by the media and emotion of the people. I still have no doubt that some team will sign Vick; should the Atlanta Falcons release him. I'm also sorry for the fact that this story is what will dominate the upcoming football season for the fans of this sport.

I agree with everything you just said. This is waaay more of a media hype story than real news.

What get me is he's getting worse then some people do for killing people.

I mean, how many times have you heard of people getting a slap on the wrist for killing someone in an accident caused because they were drinking?

I personally know a guy who got out in a year after killing a man that way.
