Barely. Canada and the U.S. share much more than a border.

Catch and release fishing is done to allow the fish population to grow over time. I do not find that cruel at all; actually I view it as a help to nature- one of the few things humans do in this respect.

So stabbing the fish in the lip with a hook isn't cruel to you? Seems rather barbaric to me. Although I guess people do it too.

Not being a hunter, I cannot offer a good opinion on trophy hunting as opposed to any other form. I also do not place animals on such a high pedestal outside of my own pet or pets.
Nor do I. I own two cats. But I despise strays.

I think fisherman have become aware of keeping the fish population where it is as you mentioned, Joe. Sportfishing may be another matter. Where I live, there are several sportfishing outfits in San Diego, such as H&M. They've been known to return with albacores, yellowtails, bluefins.

Sometime when they catch seabass or barracudas, they will be released back into the ocean.

Now wouldn't Japan and some Asian countries be guilty of overfishing, though?

By whose laws would they be guilty?

Police say man fed cats to his pit bulls
Police say man fed cats to his pit bulls

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - A man captured neighborhood cats and kittens and fed them live to his pit bulls, authorities said Thursday. Tye Hilmo, 21, was charged Thursday with aggravated cruelty to animals.

Hilmo was already in jail on drug, firearm and probation violation charges, Gwinnett County sheriff's spokeswoman Stacey Bourbonnais said.

The new warrant charges that Hilmo "did give injured live cats and kittens to his pit bull dogs and let the pit bulls kill the already injured cats and kittens. Hilmo would capture and injure neighborhood cats for this purpose."

He was arrested Sept. 10 after investigators serving a search warrant on his house found guns and two pounds of marijuana, Bourbonnais said. He has been jailed since then.

Authorities found the bodies of two kittens near Hilmo's residence. Bourbonnais said they also found a gruesome image on Hilmo's cell phone: a picture of one of his pit bulls and one of the mauled, dead kittens, and beneath picture a caption that says "Good Dog."

"It's pretty disturbing," Bourbonnais said.

The initial tip about Hilmo indicated he may be feeding kittens and cats to his dogs to prepare the dogs for fighting, but no dogfighting charges have been leveled against Hilmo, Bourbonnais said.

Sheriff's officials could not immediately say whether Hilmo has an attorney.

I'm not sure, but I think murder only applies to humans. If there is a lawyer out there, please feel free to correct me.

I do most certainly agree, H80. We seem to have among our society some individuals who have a SICK definition of caring for their pets.

The only difference is that he stole the kittens. But how far off from that is this? People do this kind of stuff all the time.

YouTube - mouse vs. snake

YouTube - Mouse -vs- piranha's

Would it be better if he had bought the kittens of maybe got a box of the free one people give away in front of Wal-Mart? Theft yes, some ungodly animal cruelty, I don't think so.

frankly I cannot understand how anyone can own a pet that you have to give a live pet to to eat. but aside from my feeligns on that this is different. much different. dogs do not naturally eat cats. they may savagely play with them and kill them but that does not make them the true natural food for dogs. cats are not the natural prey of another animal. this is not something that occurs in nature, and the man had to INJURE them first so the dogs could even catch or keep them, I presume. a person who stalks and captures a domestic animal that is not meant as prey to feed to another animal that does not even naturally feed on that animal is way off base. as you are for defending it.better to fight for outlawing the feeding of all live animals to other animals then to sanction this.
As the song says, it was a love T.K.O.
