I think that the real crime of the 1919 CWS scandal was that Landis should have waited until a criminal trial that found the players guilty had ocurred; before handing down this lifelong penalty and not before. I think of this as the first "trial by media".
I do believe in letting him and any one else charged with a crime have their day and their say in court. I believed he will be fined at most. I really think some better judgement could have been shown by Vick.
Yes, he should have been more aware, if he claimed he didn't know what was happening, of what was happening. Oh well.
Lawyer: Vick to plead guilty to dogfighting charges - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Closure on this is pretty well near. His NFL career may go bye-bye for some time.

I just heard that on NPR as I was driving. He will have some jail time.

Good news, I thought, but better news would have been hearing that he would be subjected to the same treatment that he subjected the dogs to.

This is definitely one of those cases that tests my views on capital punishment.

I listened to ESPN radio on my way home about what type of judge Vick will be looking at. The judge has a low tolerance, says the commentator. So Vick better watch what he says in a way of whether he admitted to all or some of the charges.

I actually feel a certain pity for Vick. What he got himself involved in was unconsionable. I mean, If you want to bet on something, there are plenty of legal casinos around. Since I love pro football, I have to say that I am glad he wasn't involved in a scandal involving betting on the Atlanta Falcons and the NFL.
One the other hand, he must face the consequences of his actions. I think he will do some jail time; but I don't think it will be more than two years. He will be fined substantially. I think Vick has decided to face this music now, so that he may ressurect his NFL career as soon as possible. Jail or not, he still is a very talented quarterback. (Please don't think that I am trying to excuse his behavior- I'm not) Afterwards if Atlanta does not wish to have him play for them; I am positive some other team will.

The ESPN commentator was also commenting about what kind, if any, prison, if any, Michael Vick will go to. Minimum or Medium. They said it all depends on the length of sentence.

But you know, given his record, and his leadership, I would be willing to bet that he might get probation. But who knows what a judge will say.

If Vick gets jail time, it'll be because he's black and famous. (so his supporters will say)

if he gets probation, it'll be because he is famous. (so dog-lovers and those opposed to animal cruelty will say)

I think he should do time, for a long time. I think he should be lathered in blood and thrown into the dog pit with the dogs. Nah, I don't think he *really* should be thrown into the pit. I do think he should do supervised community service at animal shelters. I further think he should be banned for life from the NFL.

The latter depends on what Roger Goodell says. Paul Tagliabue might have put the hammer down on him. The late-Kennesaw Mountain Landis, baseball commissioner in the early 1900's, who was famous for banning eight members of the 1919 Chicago White Sox, definitely would have banned him.

I don't think he will be permanently banned from the NFL. I think he will just be punished by the court to whatever, and that's it. Like it or not, he has not destroyed the integrity of the NFL, he (along with many others) has just embarrased the players as a whole. This is what Goodell had in mind in trying to impose a standard of decent behavior upon the ambassadors of this sport.H80, I believe that you are correct in that Vick's leadership and popularity before this whole mess will be what will keep him in the NFL.
