Saudi Arabia to meet Iraq in Asian Cup final

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - Iraq stunned South Korea 4-3 on penalties Wednesday and Saudi Arabia upset defending champions Japan 3-2 to set up an Asian Cup final few expected to see.

It is Iraq's first-ever major final and sparked wild celebrations in Baghdad, while the Saudis atoned for the last tournament in China in 2004 when they failed to make the decider for the first time in 20 years.

They meet in Jakarta on Sunday while Japan and South Korea face an unwanted trip to Pelambang in Indonesia on Saturday to play-off for third place.

Just imagine that under the Saddam Hussein regime, if Iraq lost any of their matches, the players would be subjected to torture by Saddam's sons, which so happened when they failed at the Olympics.

So here is hoping that Iraq can be lifted greatly with more success in soccer.

IMO, baseball and football are so BORING to watch. At least soccer is constant action, and 1 hour of play doesn't get pulled out to 4 1/2 hours of monotony.

Baseball ain't boring for me to watch. NFL football got its bad guys, but I get more excited to watch college football.

That's going to be long hard task, Hevusa.

Before Wayne Grestsky came to Los Angeles in 1988, hockey in Southern California didn't have any support. The Kings were averaging around 9-10,000 fans a game in a beautiful arena, called The Forum, located in Inglewood, CA. They since relocated to the Staples Center in downtown L.A. I miss the Forum, though.

After Gretsky came to L.A., attendance boomed, and now hockey is very popular in Southern California. The Ducks claimed the first Stanley Cup championship for all of California.

Nascar, the Dodgers, and Angels still continue to draw big crowds in SoCal.
