Jesus shaves, cuts hair...CF for NYY
How does everyone feel about Johnny Damon signing with the Yankees? Personally, I was not surprised that the Red Sox did not resign him, however, I did not think he was gonna go to the Yankees. Now that I think about it, though, I think it's pretty clear that the Yanks had their eye on him for quite some time. This is part of what the media is calling the "dismantling" trend, where the 2004 World Series team is slowly being broken apart. However, the Red Sox won in 04 because of a certain kind of player selection and management. People are saying if Theo Epstien was still the GM, Damon would have been resigned. Theo Epstien also brought a World Series to Boston by not overpaying older players. Damon is an older player, possibly nearing the end of his prime--although I don't think it will be quite yet. Furthermore, the Yankees are overpaying him. This will hurt in 2006 and probably 2007...but farther down the road, I can't see this being a horrible move for the Red Sox.
But it don't take much to get me by

Yea, I can't see it as being a horrible move either for the Red Sox. I know a lot of fans are going to be emotionally upset seeing him in stripes, but I really don't care if he is with the Yankees. Well, not that I looked at it, it surely is going to be weird seeing him in stripes.

If Theo Epstein was still the GM for the Red Sox, I really have no idea if he would of kept Damon. Theo Epstein is just a brilliant man, or should I say kid (youngest GM ever in baseball history) If Epstein would believe that getting rid of Damon would help benefit the team in some other way, i'm sure he would do it.

It seems to me that people are pretty split on whether it is going to be bad for the Red Sox or that it won't matter. Like any deal, only time will tell.

The sox will miss his bat more than his weak ass arm, which is easy to overlook when your lead off batter leads the team in batting avg.

Did anyone else lol when he was looking for a 7 year deal, get real I think Johnny smokes too much weed.......

Let's also not forget that his .315 average represents all of last year's season. He was still hitting .347 in July...doesn't that just jump out at you?
