It's hard to turn back from an icon. I'm not denying that. But look at it from a more dramatic standpoint: During the transition period- if Favre retired today- the Pack probably wouldn't see the NFC championship for at least 10 more years at the earliest. Why? Because the man in waiting, Aaron Rogers; has not been blooded properly. Sure, he played a couple of series in last year's preseason games, but he will need real experience in the regular season. Last year, On several occasions; the Pack should have put him in to get him this experience he needs, and failed to do so. Favre is at the point in his career where he must be used to groom the heir apparent. But Rogers can't be groomed until they are willing to give him real playing time with the best example of a quarterback in Green Bay's (and perhaps the NFL's)history to bring him along. If they are just going to play Favre until he does retire; then they will have to start all over from square one at quarterback.

I hear what your saying. This is a strange position for GB to be in. The only problem I see, is the man has shown the ability to not only continue to play at a NFL level at such a high age, but he's able to play at a top 5 NFL level at such a high age. Do you take that while you can, or do you prepare for the long term? I would have dropped a 100 dollar bill last year (if I was a betting women) that said he would have finnished close to last in the league for all starting QB's, based on his age alone. NTM it took them half a year to realize they had a run game(they can thank NY for that Had they pulled Farve at all last year, it would have spun some heads. They were obviously a contender for the title. Heck they were one game away from doing just that. Championships are hard to come by, championship QB's are hard to come by. I say you win while you can, and in Farve, they have a winner. Just be ready to pull his ass, as soon as that age starts showing. Rogers is going to have a hard transition for sure, but such is the NFL.

| Well, I am glad that the Giants won. At least it vindicated the Chargers, to say the least. And now congress want to probe the spying in the NFL. With the drugs in baseball and drugs/spying in football, it seems that the outdoor sports world in the USA is becoming unglued. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I don't mean to sound rude, but what happened after Bart Starr retired? Nothing. For over twenty years; because the Packer organization did not prepare itself for this eventuality. They were so in love with Bart Starr that they didn't even want to. That's fine; if you just want to field a good team every twenty years or so. I just think Packer pride has risen to the level where it will expect better of its team. Don't forget, as much as PackerNation loves Brett Favre; that in his first couple of years with the Packers, they were ready to have him run out of town! | ||||||||||||||||||||||

And tbh, fans are brutal. Love 'em one minute, leave 'em the next. I remember watching a movie about Babe Ruth, made me cry for the human soul that was not affirmed. Only his playing ability. OhDear

| I think Brett's abuse problem came up in his fourt year with the Pack; OD. Up until then, Brett only had one thing that kept him in Green Bay: Sterling Sharpe. Unfortunately, the defenses for the other teams knew this, and always played to separate Sharpe from the play called. If Favre couldn't get the ball to Sharpe, the play was dead. It took two more years until Brett learned to use his other receivers effectively. All I'm saying here, OD; is that this is the critical time where Rogers can be learning these issues. Brett would be there for the teaching and support needed to bring him along; should he decide to return for another season. As much as I love discussing football with you or anyone (and everyone) else; Aaron Rogers is not ready to assume this role yet.If he's thrown into this position without the benefit of what Favre can teach him now; I believe PackerNation will endure another twenty years of failure as they did in the 70's and 80's. | |||||||||||||||||||||
