First, H80; your Chargers have much the same situation to deal with as does the Giants. Both have young and extremely talented quarterbacks, but both have yet to truly "find their feet". In other words, they must be micro-managed and kept on very short leashes, so as not to let their youth and inexperience suffer youthful mistakes. The bright spot is that this was exactly what was done with Manning last weekend, but a little less so with Rivers.
There was even one key play in which Tomlinson had to call the timeout to prevent a delay of game penalty- Rivers was not aware of the playclock running out!
I'm willing to say that San Diego has the best running back in the playoffs by far. But he is playing with a youngster at quarterback that must be watched at all times by their coaches. If so, I believe they match up with every team still remaining. So, the question to me as far as your Chargers go, is: "Can the coach keep Phillip Rivers within his game, without losing the game by virtue of too many turnovers"? If so, the Chargers will be tough in the AFC
The same will apply to Eli Manning and Tony Romo for any of the Giants or Cowboys fans among us.Tony Romo does have more of a running ability, and a deep threat in Terrell Owens that will require double coverage but he still must be kept within his game.
OD, you know I love you; but I think for the Packers to win, they must get Favre a lead quickly, to keep him relaxed enough to control the game. If he gets behind right away by more than 14 points, history has shown that he will start rushing his passes which will result in throwing interceptions. He is by far the most experienced quarterback in the playoffs. I like the Green Bay use of the "slant-in" pass;where an outside reciever just cuts into the middle at the start of the play; with Favre hitting him in stride with a pass. It is the highest percentage of completion pass in football-yet the Pack seem to be the only team that understand this and exploit this.
I'll be back later to finish my dissertation here, I have an appointment to get to.
I'm back again. I was back earlier but I lost the whole speech I had written by hitting the wrong key. So, I'll just give you my picks.
Packers/Seahawks: Pack by 6. I don't think Seattle has the offensive weapons to win. Their defense will get eaten alive by the "slant-in pass".
Patriots/ Jaguars: Pats by 4; but this game will be very close. I think New England has ( and will need) another miracle finish. David Gerraud had stepped forward to be the next Michael Vick (hopefully without the same taste in extracurricular entertainment.I actually hope I'm wrong on this pick, but I have to "call it like I see it".
Chargers/Colts: Indy by 10. Yes, I said 10. I'm sorry, H80; but Indy has entirely too many weapons that Ladanian Tomlinson alone cannot overcome. Add to that the Phillip Rivers situation.
Cowboys/ Giants: Cowboys by 6. Terrell Owens will probably be more of a decoy if he plays, but he (no matter what you may think of his mouth) has talent and experience. Two factors that dictate that the Giants must double cover him. Jason Wittman will have a career day. Romo will throw 3 TD passes.
Next week, I will dissect the conference final games from Las Vegas for you, where I will be visiting a friend that was struck by a car and is hospitalized.

Not to worry, Joe. I have my doubts about the Chargers, too.

Yup! I surely am!

Such a great comeback. And I am so proud of Brett and Coach McCarthy for keeping Ryan Grant in the game! That Grant is some expert afterall!!!

I have to admit, OD; that when Seattle was up 14-0 early, that I thought the packers would be in trouble. I can't understand as to why they could not press this advantage more, because Brett Favre is not known as(and never has been) a comeback quarterback. Today was probably the only time I can remember that he has done so. All in all, he played great; as the rest of the Pack did. I predicted a win for the Pack, although I could not see the margin of victory as it turned out.

Oh and they carry little dickie towels tucked in their belts in case their handies get all dirty.

In rugby you can only pass backwards.

And you don't run around and do one of those girlie victory dances every time you manage to run five yards forward. After which they have a time out, replay the move 15 times and show another bunch of ads (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz).

Finally the umpire is allowed to re-start the game after he gets permission from the TV producer!

At the risk of sounding like a traitor to my country, I have a hard time disagreeing with you here. There are so many damn things that can stop the clock it will drive you crazy. Also, some of the penalties seem rather ridiculous. Why penalize a team for offensive pass interference? Also, defensive pass interference always pissed me off - you're supposed to allow the bloody opposing team to catch the ball before you can touch him.

I suppose the only penalty that really gets my goat is the "excessive celebration" penalty after a touchdown sometimes. I don't like it because I think players should show emotion after a score. And how would you exactly define "excessive celebration"? Rolling a keg into the end zone for a beer? Having a stripper come out of the tunnels? Very touchy call to make!
