There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

I think it is not only homeruns that is the issue, Hev; but any long-standing record. That is why if MLB sold itself for the knowledge that Bonds obviously was going to surpass Aaron's record; that record must stand.
Speaking of Aaron, did you know that when he was set to pass Babe Ruth's record; not only was he receiving death threats, there was a fledgling movement started to not recognize this achievment because Ruth played in a league that at the time did not recognize Blacks? I forget the name of this movement; I'd have to look it up. I know it was reported back then in my local (at the time) papers.

1) Comparing racial issues in baseball with illegal substances is total crap.
Bonds now plays in a league where Blacks are embraced for their contribution to the game.
Aaron played in a league where Blacks were looked down upon and not considered equal. A time of age that people feared what they didnt understand.(Which sadly still happens today)
2) There will always be an * next to Bonds, maybe not in the MLB HoF when Bonds is put in. But in each and every fan and listener of baseball...and those are the people who truely count. Its only a * and not an X because there is no SOLID proof against Bonds because the doc shoved a gag ball down his own throat and wont admit to the allegations. Once the proof surfaces the * will become an X.

Ruth would have hit a lot more homeruns in Yankee Stadium in his days. It was like 465 feet from home to the centerfield fence in those days.

I believe that first- MLB opened themselves up to something like this by never having any concrete rules regarding steroids and HGH beforehand.
As far as any other train of thought; it is still just allegations! Nothing more. Until there is a thing called proof in this case, which has not been even closely achieved; this record is still good and must stand. No asterisk, no nothing.
Did you ever catch any of Mark McGwire's statement to Congress when quizzed about steroids? He was more into dodging it.

The guy who caught had to sell it because the IRS would have levied a lot of money in taxes for a $24.00 baseball that Bonds hit #756 with. Ridiculous, isn't it? Congress should pass a law banning that dumb rule.

What's your opinion on Barry Bonds being indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice charges?

I would guess his basball career is over, who would sign him now? I wish they would have been able to do it before he got the homerun record.

Wow!! Interesting point, OTF. I agree, but without Greg Anderson's testimony, the grand jury took a long time to listen to the evidence before they can hand out indictments.

Speaking of Anderson, I really wonder if he will testify for the prosecution if the case ever does go to trial?

I agree with both points that you guys just made. If this evidence was already in hand long ago (by some accounts; I've read) why did this take so long to happen? At the very least, Selig should have suspended Bonds while this whole mess was going on, and before the HR record was even part of the equation. That's where I still will have a problem. Since Bonds was an active player at the time he hit the record ball, I still believe that he must be credited withthe feat. I also would give him the Pete Rose treatment with a lifetime ban and no Hall of Fame down the line.
I know I may have just touched some sore spots with that statement. I apologize if anyone takes it personally; but I'm just a little angry that MLB allowed this to happen to itself. This whole Bonds mess could have been dealt with in a better manner than was done that would not harm the sanctity of the game.
BTW, OTF: Been playing any Hold 'Em lately?
