Tyson's career may be over after latest loss
By TIM DAHLBERG, AP Boxing Writer
June 11, 2005

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Mike Tyson's career may have ended in shocking fashion Saturday night when he quit on the stool after taking a beating in a foul-filled sixth round against unheralded Kevin McBride.

Tyson lost for the third time in his last four fights, and once again he faded badly as the rounds went on before head butting McBride in a desperate attempt to end the fight in the sixth round.

Tyson was pushed to the canvas when the round ended, his head stuck between the first and second ropes. He got up very slowly, wobbled back to his corner and sat on his stool.

When referee Joe Cortez came by to look at him, his corner told Cortez the fighter could not continue. Cortez then went over and raised McBride's hand in victory.

The 38-year-old Tyson was a huge favorite over McBride and won the early rounds. But as the fight went on, it was McBride landing the bigger punches as Tyson desperately tried to score a knockout.

Tyson was weary by the fifth round and, in the sixth round, he was penalized two points for deliberately head butting McBride and opening a cut over his left eye. The head butt came after Tyson appeared to try to break McBride's arm in a clinch like he once did against Francois Botha and after he hit him with several low blows.

In a career filled with tremendous highs and terrible lows, Tyson may have reached a new low in the loss to McBride, who came into the fight with no credentials.

I used to be a big fan of Mike Tyson and his boxing fights, but I just don't see how he can go on after losing to these last two journeymen boxers. He just doesn't have the stuff that he once had anymore.

He should give up before he really gets hurt.

Could Tyson have defeated 'The Greatest'?
Just out of curiousity...... Do any of you think that Mike Tyson in his prime could have defeated Muhammed Ali in his prime? I think possibly he could have, but he would have had to get inside of Ali's tremendous jabs and reach advantage and hit him with one of those tremendous left hooks.

Ever see the movie "The Rundown" with The Rock. I would have to agree with The Rock on that part. Tyson does have the power, but he is too slow for Ali.

Whereas I tend to agree, we should also consider the fact that Tyson is not a very smart man. He's a lot dumber than Ali. And I sometimes suspect that Tyson is too dumb to feel the full force of pain...

Yeah, which also goes against him since he sounds like the complete moron he is everytime he talks. Ali on the other hand was a smooth talker. Tyson can't float like a butterfly, sting like a bee...come on
But it don't take much to get me by
So just booze me up and get me high

haha that was it.

"float like butterfly, sting like a bee."

Also good point brought up by tadpole, "Tyson is too dumb to feel the full force of pain..."
