The closer's defining statistic is the Save. The definition of a "save situation" is ridiculous, I don't even know them all. The two most common saves are getting the last 3 outs (at least) with a 3 run lead or less. If you pitch the last 3 innings of a game without surrendering the lead, you also get a save.

I love baseball.

Foulke has had a tough year but I think he might have been pitching hurt for awhile. His ERA has been high this year, but he was ok in save situations until recently, then he just went on the DL. Last year he was healthy and he threw nasty. We would not have won the World Series without him.

thats true, but hey its a team, we wouldnt have gotten to the world series without plenty of the players. we need every single one of em. i hope foulke is great next year or better yet when he gets off the DL. im watchin the red sox at baltimore and luis matos robbed david ortiz of a 3 run home run, he caught the ball while it had just gotten over the wall was in home run territory, it was a nice play but damn him for it. the game is tied 1-1.

Damn...I turned it on late and they were down 4-1. They said Matos made some great plays, you described one of them. I just turned it on again...they're losing 6-1 in the 8th but Damon just lead off with a hit. Come on boys.

I know what you're saying about the team. I'm just saying I think Foulke's had trouble this year because of his health, not his ability as a pitcher. I think he's still got great years ahead of him, with that nasty change up.
