Man shoots goat after wife wouldn't bring him beer

WAUPACA — A rural New London man, apparently upset with his wife for not buying beer after he came home from hunting, allegedly shot one of the family’s two pet goats.

Peter W. Mischler, 48, N1743 County HH, was charged Monday in Waupaca County Circuit Court with mistreatment of animals, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and disorderly conduct with a dangerous weapon.

Mischler was placed on a $1,000 cash bond by Circuit Judge Raymond Huber.

Huber set further proceedings for next Tuesday.

According to the criminal complaint, Mischler came home Saturday from hunting and expressed anger with his 22-year-old daughter for letting the goats out and making a mess.

While she was talking on the phone to her mother, he told her to tell his wife to bring home some beer. His wife refused.

According to the complaint, that made him angry and he threatened to shoot the goats.

His wife soon arrived at the house. While she and her daughter were inside, they heard four gunshots. They went outside and found one of the two goats, still alive, with its entrails hanging out. It had to be killed later by a sheriff’s deputy.

It was unclear from the complaint if the second goat was harmed.

The wife depriving her husband of beer. What kinda crap is that? It was in her power to save those damn goats and she refused. She should be ashamed.

If only the goat had a gun, the poor thing would have been able to defend itself.

Yeah well they put animals down for attacking man. I even heard of more than one case over the years, where a dog would attack an armed intruder, but the dog's owner had to have the dog put down, ordered by the courts!!!

I know this is a thread in a forum about gun control, and not about animal rights, but this news article brings the two together.
