WHy does this kind of tragedy happen so frequently in AMerica?

Evidence in almost every other western county shows that

fewer guns = fewer gun deaths

Brilliant deduction

Agreed, the gun has no nature. It's just a tool for man. But how many people would you trust to handle a gun responsibly?

Perhaps the greatest way to use a gun is not to use it at all ...

Tad do you actively try to spread hate and discontent? Seriously... must you piss on every parade you see? Do you have any friends?

Grow up...

But why are so eager to accept that culture?

Do you think it can't be changed?

Gary, gun control tells bad guys "take whatever you want, your victims are sitting ducks" and it hasn't done a great job anywhere. After gun control laws, more robberies, more rapes, more burgleries, and statistics are clear on this. Indeed, this shooter at VaTech KNEW there were no guns there to oppose him. Gun control limits the right to life of most innocent law abiding citizens by leaving them totally unprotected BY LAW!

With Concealed Carry laws on the books in a growing number of states, the bad guys have no such assurances of safety....a law-abiding citizen could have a gun in any pocket or bag to oppose them and stop their victimization of others weaker than themselves.

Gun control only makes sense if you want to be a criminal. If you want to LIVE, being able to shoot back is sort of important, whether you do it or not.

Bogus, outdated argument which no other industrialised country accepts.

And it didn't save the lives of those THIRTY-ONE innocent people who were shot today.

THIRTY-ONE people !!!

I agree with you that gun control laws are not the immediate answer. There needs to be a change in the fanatical, bloodthirsty US gun culture before any laws would be effective.

I think there's a similarity with smoking, which only 30-40 years ago was an accepted part of the US culture. TV hosts like Dean Martin Rowan/Martin used to smoke on screen, nobody thought twice about it.

Today smoking on camera would be considered inappropriate. There are far fewer smokers around and smoking is banned in more and more public places.

The same mindset change could happen with gun usage.

Again, if other countries can achieve sensible gun use, why not the US?

(This is where tad askes me to go home if I don't like it, in his usual well-balanced style !)

Oh yes, hunting is rather cruel. However, eating the animals after they are dead is quite alright.

Your attitude might change if some bloke broke into your flat and threated your family with a gun. Self defence is the reason we need guns as it is far too late to erradicate them entirely.
