American news media used to be like the majority of media around the world that focused on informing the public. Now it's focused on entertaining the public, and instilling fear into them. Basically, if you keep the populace afraid, they will consume.

And a popular reaction in American politics to international problems isn't finding common ground or settling things peacefully, but "what can we do to have it our way with our military"? The kidnappings of the British sailors and marines by Iran for example, would have been handled completely differently if the kidnappings were of American military men and women. Probably covert (or even overt) action would have superseded negotiations. Its all a part of the culture of fear.

People are afraid, don't trust anyone, and the American environment is by nature a breeder of alienation. Obviously a direct cause of this particular incident at Virginia Tech (a 'loner' gunman).
Interesting theory - does anyone else agree with it or is it yours and yours alone?

On that bogus surveillance issue, are you aware that you are being photogrpahed every time you use an ATM, visit a gas station, bank, supermarket, etc etc?

The average American is photographed every bit as much as his British counterpart, but at least we don't have the unofficial National ID of the SSN#.

As for tracking devices, whenever your cell phone is switched on you can be located to within 6 feet. Your car's GPS system or LoJack device provides the same convenience to those guys in dark suits!

Why would we want to shoot cameras?

Duh we know we are on camera everywhere we go but the government cant use squat of it without legal documents allowing them(which can only be obtained during criminal matters), otherwise the footage is just erased by the store or company w/e.

Cell phones can only be tracked when a call is accepted or outgoing to make a trace. And wow the "suits" can track you in your car....wow i(and probably everyone on this site) can hack your wireless connection, OMG does that mean i work for the feds? I can obtain your garage door opener's feq. with the push of a button on a scanner. ACK does that mean I am a "suit"?!

Wanna bet? Remember the recent wiretapping scandals?

That footage is as available as the one of you driving your car in London with 500,000 other vehicles!

Not true? Cell phones send out a positioning signal every few seconds so the satellite knows where to find you.

I'm amazed at the paranoia Americans express about all those cameras in Britain when it is not much different here, or any other advanced western nation

Hellooooo thats why it was called a scandel, was done illegally.

And wrong it doesnt go to a satellitte, you are bounced from cell tower to cell tower, that is how they are able to triangulate your position, ONLY when you make or take a call

That's odd. It's the US government, not my own, who wants to take my fingerprints before being allowed to visit your country.
