Truth there.

But neither did the issue need to rise in the dust, not yet settled of what has just happened...

This is how I look at it...

If someone died of anorexia, after having been morbidly obese in their life, I would not use that period of mourning to sell the family and friends of the deceased on the idea of Weight Watchers and pilates.

And that is what has happened to the tragedy if it gets used politically.

Well, I don't think we want to go back and check out TIMING of who said what first. Frankly, Bush was going to be criticized no matter what he did. It's just easier, I guess, to take criticism for defending the Constitution. The call for gun control was out there before the President said anything at all.

He did offer his heartfelt support and condolences. He's criticized because he shouldn't have mentioned anything more. But that's perception. And I would have to disagree.

Does that mean bomb-vests should be legal too?

I would agree with that. In fact, it was out of the mouths of some people right after they learned of the killings. I responded that it is not the weapon that kills, it is the person. It matters not if it is a gun or a nuke; the difference is magnitude. It is the urge inside that person. This urge is in us all to some extent. It is in how we each handle this feeling that we succeed in being civilized or not.

Our own strategies for coping with these negative emotions/energies should be shared with others. There are numerous anger management, stress management, and other classes. Try yoga, meditation, taking walks, mindful breathing, listening to classical music (I find harp music especially soothing), talking with others, crochet or knitting... before your stress level gets too high.

By the same token, we are a community, and community members watch out for each other. Many of us belong to a religion that requires us to "do good". Is not helping someone else with their negative emotions "doing good", both for the person and the community?

Legal, no, but there is no way to stop some one from building one. The fact is that prohibition laws do not work. What we need here is education.

Are you seriously arguing that there's no point in having laws because criminals will always break them??
