Hmmm.... I guess that takes a big shit on your theory... Nice try though...
And what purpose do all those 6 categories share??

Guns have only one use - to fire bullets. They are not a mode of transport or a garage door opener!!

Come on taddy you'll have to do better than that!!

Is this you're method? Stating the obvious?

If necessary - yes.

Once you grasp the obvious then we can move on

Gary,
as a Christian fundy in America, I was taught to stand for the right to "bear arms" ...
But I came out of that listening to my heart, and favoring gun legislation, in fact, gun eradication suits me fine.

But then as I was studying how the SPLA stood against the insidious factioned government fights to annihilate the Nuba and other tribal groups, I thought about it some more. The people needed to be armed to survive.

I am still against just anyone and everyone having guns laying around in their homes and such, but maybe folks could keep them at a Rod and Gun Club under lock and key. I don't know.

A couple questions for you.Would you agree that the definition of a criminal is someone who breaks the law (commits a crime)?
Would you also agree that by definition a law abiding citizen is one who follows and does not break the law?
If you can answer yes to these two questions, what makes you think that if you try to ban guns (which is what I am getting from your posts), that the criminals will all of a sudden become law abiding citizens and give up their guns? The only ones who will do that are the people who follow the law already. This will only put them in greater danger from the criminals who already laugh at the law.
If you want to reduce gun crimes, put into effect a law that states that if you commit a crime with a gun,you go to jail for 25 or more years with no chance of parole. If this does not reduce crime by fear of that long in prison,at least it will get more criminals off the street making all of us safer(includin you).

I am not advocating that strict gun control laws will solve the US gun problem and gun-related crime rate overnight, I agree its much more complex than that.

I'm saying the only way to diminish the gun culture is by making gun ownership and usage socially unacceptable, in the same way that say cigarettes have become increasingly unacceptable over the past 30-40 years

Remember that most other industrialised nations had US style gun habits at some time, yet were able to overcome them.

It seems very un-American to give up and accept failure where peer nations have succeeded

Vermont has a genuine right to carry law (i.e., requires no permits) and yet boasts the lowest crime rate in the nation (9)

a. Nationwide, concealed carry laws have worked to drop crime rates. Indeed, a comprehensive national study in 1996 determined that violent crime fell after states made it legal to carry concealed firearms. (10)

b. The results of the study showed:

* States which passed concealed carry laws reduced their murder rate by 8.5%, rapes by 5%, aggravated assaults by 7% and robbery by 3%; and

* If those states not having concealed carry laws had adopted such laws in 1992, then approximately 1,570 murders, 4,177 rapes, 60,000 aggravated assaults and 12,000 robberies would have been avoided yearly. (11)

9. Morgan Quitno Press, Crime State Rankings 1996, at iv.

10. John R. Lott, Jr. and David B. Mustard, "Crime, Deterrence, and Right-to-Carry Concealed Handguns," University of Chicago, (13 July 1996). See also Lott, Jr., "More Guns, Less Violent Crime," The Wall Street Journal (28 August 1996).

11. See supra note 9.

We are from 2 different cultures so we will see things differently. But I draw a line when someone tries to force their point of view on me and tries to make me as a gun owner and law abiding citizen look like a knuckle dragger that goes out looking for trouble. That is not what I am nor what I stand for.
I stand for being able to defend myself and my family if ,God forbid,it is necessary. If that means I have to use a gun to protect my family from a criminal who has a gun, then I thank God that I live in a country where I have the right to do so.

Your righteous indignation is misplaced. Nobody is forcing anything on you

Why do you hide behind this assumed "right" to carry a gun??

It isn't about rights. it's about building a safer society with less violent crime!

Other western countries could arbitrarily give themselves the same right to have guns, and if they did their murder rates would probably rise to US levels too

The right is not assumed,it is guaranteed by the Second Amendment. As a citizen of this country this gives me the right to own (I never said carry) a gun as long as I meet certain requirements that are specified by the state that I live in.
Check out Post 317.Concealed carry has not increased but decreased the amount of violent crime that occurs in states that have passed this legislation.
