I for one am in favor of the idea. I am not talking about a kook squad, but a group of individuals who get together, in a disciplined, self regulated manner, and train to react to the worse case scenarios. In addition to being able to assist in a time of natural disaster, they could also very well prove to be our last line of defense in the event of a Presidential Tyrant, or the declaration of martial law.

I am not talking about the National Guard, rather a separate, private, community run militiawho could stand ready to serve the interests of thier community if and when needed.

Before WWII California had a Naval Militia, who proved to be so effective and useful that the Navy made them a part of the active Naval Force during the war. There can be benefits to such an organization. Like grown up boyscouts with guns...

The Civil Air Patrol is a close example, but they are too closely controled by the USAF.
The Republicans crushed this Constitutional Right after the Civil War. I do agree with you. It should be allowed again. It is a Constitutional Right but just try it and see how long it takes the U.S. Government to come down on your ass.

Please read the all of the Patriot Acts. They basically nullify the Bill of Rights and Constitution. They were created to deal with the problem of patriots (terrorists). If you don't think that our government is becoming more and more corrupt and fascist, then you must not be a history buff. The Civil War nullified the right of a state to secede from the union. The central goal of the Civil war was not to protect human rights. Every other country in the world was able to end slavery without a war. Freeing the slaves was never given as the full reason for the war at the time. It is also known as the war for secession. The South was a source of tax dollars for the newly formed federal government in the north. The southern states had been seceding one by one before war broke out. The 14th amendment was specifically written to secure the rights of former slaves. The 14th amendment was later perverted by corporations. In the case of Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad Companyit was determined that a corporation should have the rights of an individual(the same as a freed slave). This basically gave corporations human rights without the burden of human responsibility. In the early part of this century the 16th amendment created the IRS and shifted the corporate tax burden to individuals. The creation of the federal reserve gave the nations power to an elite group of wealthy bankers (and banking corporations). Later the creation of the World Bank and the League of Nations followed by the United Nations gave this same group of global elites control over world governments. The recent acts of domestic terror are "false flag" attacks which were engineered to frighten the US populace into accepting more "security" measures like the US Patriot Acts. The first Patriot Act was written before 911. Pilots were required to have guns in the cockpit up until just before the 911 attacks. This requirement dated back to the Cuban missile crisis. Ask yourself why this rule changed.
The globalists want our guns, and they want global government. This is exactly what Hitler wanted. One of the first things that Hitler did when gaining power was to make it a crime to own a gun. The fact that it is happening gradually shouldn't surprise anyone. It's been working hasn't it?
