I support our right to keep and bear arms, but I also suppoort regulations and restrictions on that right.

Making it more difficult for law abiding citizens to purchase guns is not the answer. There's too many guns floating around this country now anyway. There's really nothing you can do about it short of Nazi-style tactics.

I think that enforcement should be stricter so that it is harder for the mentally ill and for felons to legally purchase a gun.

And I think that regulations governing gun shows in particular should be stricter.

But I do support the right of sane, law-abiding citizens to own guns. I see no real reason for them not to.
Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this. That's why I support the Pickens Plan. I think gun regulations should be federal, not state. I don't think it's right that a criminal in New York can drive down to Virginia, go to a gun show, and buy a gun.

There should be tougher rectrictions on who can and cannot own a gun. I believe in the right to arms - but only for protection.

If a criminal doesn't need a permit why should a lawful gun owner need a permit?

I guess I'd agree to something like a prescription for drugs or permit to drive a car to keep "lawful guns" out of the hands of crazies and criminals from buying them lawfully but people should be able to apply for the prescription/license prior to the purchase. In other words if you like to purchase guns at a gun fair simply have a government prescription/license statement stating you can lawfully purchase weapons.

Perhaps young people should have to pass a safety test to prove they know and understand the responsibility. I owned my first gun when I was 12 years old and didn't require either.
