Many guns owned by private citizens are not designed for "killing" (in other words, combat.)

While you define it as a specious argument; I think it to be a valid one. Any crime you can name starts at one point and one point only: somebody making the decision to commit this crime-whatever it may be. Until our society can start addressing it from this starting point; everything else is irrelevant.Again- it means nothing to banning the tool. The user will just find another. The impersonality between guns and knives is also pointless. The crime will always start with a decision to commit the crime. This will never change.
Yes, I do agree that guns are an effficient means to kill, and were to designed to be so. I still say- pointless. I think the drug problems of all countries can be just as deadly; and are. All we can do is regulate (at best).
Can you tell me why cigarettes and other tobacco -related products) came about? Why could not these be banned after the Surgeon Generals have long stated their danger? They never can be banned; and never will be.
Many of us need to come to grips with the difference between regulation and banning. They are two seperate and distinct issues. One can be done; and is frequently done in many aspects of life. The other has been tried many times; but never works.

Addressing the issue of race is a valid point and argument. The facts were presented regarding the percentage of the population blacks make up as well as the percentage of the murder victims. Their rate of murder is higher than another as a percentage of the population. It is a question that needs to be asked and addressed by the black community itself, much like their rate of single mother households and out of wedlock births.
I'm Black myself, and I agree with Sarge on race being a valid point and argument. I know we recently had a DTT member (since banned) who probably would have flipped his wig over that comment. The only thing that I would take issue with is that it is not just a Black problem to address; but an American society problem to deal with and address. No offense intended, Sarge; but single mother households and out of wedlock births is also a White problem- and for both Blacks and Whites a huge one.
The only thing I would say to this is that only education can solve these two issues; not banning or regulation.

Anytime a tragedy occurs there is a natural reaction to grab the guns, VA Tech, Columbine, et al. So why is this only the case with guns???? How many people die each year because of medical malpractice caused by doctors??? Why not outlaw the doctors??? More children are accidentally drowned in a swimming pool each year than children are killed with guns, should we ban swumming pools as well????

One of the great things about America is our diverse culture, our country is made up of many different people from many different backgrounds, we are a nation of immigrants. With great diversity also comes great misunderstanding and many different sociological problems.

Yes guns kill people, but they require a person who is willing to kill to do so. Taking away the gun will not necessarily mean taking away the desire to kill.

dmk
I agree with that statement whole-heartedly!

One weapon I hope to buy in the reasonably near future is a WWII-era British Lee-Enfield rifle. One of the shops in nearby town has a dandy specimen for a reasonable price that I've had my eye on for a while.

Now, I'll admit I'm usually more partial to German rifles (my best deer rifle is a Mauser), but you Brits did a hell of a fine job with the Lee-Enfield.

So, if I do get one, I'll be thinking of you, my favorite Brit, the first time I take it out in the countryside for a little target practice.

Well, yeah. Most of the time. I'm a bored 37 year old stay at home dad. As a man, I'm sure you understand that my mind spends quite a bit of time on sex. Most bored men do.
I know I can find a link if I have to.

It has nothing to do with being bored. It's called being a man... testosterone poisoning.

I work quite a bit. My full-time job, plus freelance work I do on the side.. and I'm horny as a three-balled billy goat.

I have a huge thing for Asian women. Don't see many around these parts. Thank God, don't see how I could concentrate if I were around them all the time.

But the other morning I was stopping by the mini-mart on my way to work, blissfully enjoying one of my few "non-horny, able to think clearly" moments --when I look up and what do I see coming right toward the front door?

Yep, a hot-assed Asian chick.

I said "ah, SHIT!" -- probably loud enough for many people around me to hear -- because I knew what was coming.

Yep, you guessed it, I was climbing-the-walls horny for the rest of the day. LMAO!!!

As the mother of a 3 year old, I don't know how you can possibly find time to spend so much time on the computer or being bored, unless you have a housekeeper and a nanny.
