Gary, I have a hard time understanding how you are not aware of this??? | Of course US and Russian involvement was a crucial part of Britain being victorious over the Nazis, but Britain stood alone against the Third Reich for over three years before either country got involved.
Meanwhile Britain defeated the German Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain, withstood months of nightly bombing
raids and provided a haven for millions of refugees.
Had Britain not prevailed until 1942 there may not have been an "ass" for you to save.
Your flippant bar-room cliches don't do justice to the complexity nor the gravity of the situation. BTW it's thanks to us that you're speaking English right now (well sort of)

Honestly, Gary, I think we have to congratulate Britain on their fortitude during WWII.
It's so easy for us to sit back and say 'We saved your asses' when we never saw the war. Britons did, thousands were killed, lost everything to the bombs, and still they stayed strong. If they hadn't been a bulwark against the Nazis, I think we would have seen a lot more action on our shores.
FWIW |

FWIW | I agree. I'm just glad I wasn't around in those days, but my parents were and their stories are pretty sobering. It makes any problems we have today fade into insignificance.
I just wonder if the Brits (or the Americans) would have the same grit and fortitude if they were faced with a similar threat today.
