As stated, Billy, Universal Health Insurance, now really, that's sort of pie-in-the=sky, but not too bad an idea. I think Mitt Romney signed a bill into law in Massachusetts that will take effect soon requiring everyone be covered by Universal Health Insurance....meaning you don't have the option to NOT have health insurance...but of course, you have to pay for it.

As a solution to a problem, it's not too bad....it should bring down the cost of coverage for everyone in the state, so long as insurance carriers show up to provide the coverage, and because EVERYONE has to pay, it may lower costs for those paying far too much.

But it could very well backfire. Time will tell.

We all already have ACCESS to health care.... but you have to pay for it.

The notion that government could do a better job that the health care professionals we now have, and the insurance companies that provide the coverage is ludicrous. Everyone would be out lots of money, and long lines and waiting lists would ensue...

Is there a single government agency that you like and think is doing a GREAT job? Think about it...education? FBI? CIA? IRS? Homeland Security? Do you feel more secure? How about Social Security? Doing a great job?

huh?

Why are you prepared to trust insurance companies, in which you have no say, more than government, which you get to elect??

Why would you trust your healthcare needs to a business that exists to make profit first??

And why should sick people be exploited by insurance companies when they have no choice about having health problems??

I'm all for free markets and capitalism in almost every walk of life but I think healthcare is differnt.

huh?

How about the US military?

They are a govt agency and arguably the largest enterprise on the planet?

Do you think they are doing a great job, or should we disband the military and subcontract defence to the private sector??

Maybe even outsource it to China??

The only function government should have is to defend the nation. And the only part of the government that functions even remotely well is defense. Unfortunately, it is a huge leviathan as well, and they still have paid $500 for a toilet seat, etc. How well would that go over to keep down health costs?

I am definitely pro military. Always have been.

What is the point of having a military when the people they are protecting are dead and dying from lack of health care?
One pill makes you larger and one pill makes you small,
And the ones that mother gives you don't do anything at all.

Let's see, do you take any responsibility for your self? Or is it just government-care-cradle-to-grave?

We'd just all be slaves to the government run programs, waiting for whatever handout we might get?

We have bout 300 million citizens and they aren't all dead and dying from lack of health care. Indeed, hospitals CANNOT by law turn you down if you go there penniless needing care. It's the law. It's also a contributing factor in health care costs...

Not everyone has the means to take full responsibility. In the past I received much public assistance in dealing with medical issues. Right now I am lucky that I have a mixture of private and public health care.

Yes, hospitals cannot refuse to treat those in need. However, the tax payers pay for this. Instead of preventing sickness, this form of medical care is the most expensive and can be ineffective. Other first world nations have health care, why not in the US?

All that is going to happen is the taxes will continue to go up and no one is going to give a shit about health care, they're going to care about having a place to stay at night.
Well NB i'm afraid your concerns are quite unfounded. I have lived in a country with 100% free healthcare.. and it does NOT have the effect that you claim.

The US loses BILLIONS in revenue every year due to health issues of average workers. Better access to healthcare (particularly preventative measures) improve productivity immensely.

Your concern that it will cost you too much is also unfounded. The concept of Taxation is that each pays what he can afford. If your Baboon in Chief Bush hadn't given tax breaks to the super rich, or in fact had INCREASED taxes for the super rich it would have made NO difference... of course apart from the increased funds in the exchequer. the suepr rich would still have their mansions, limos, private jets etc etc.. But average Joe might then be able to go to the doctor as soon as he feels ill.. instead of waiting till he's so sick that he has to go through more expensive and longer treatment.

Besides this thread started with questioning priorities. Is itmore important to fund a preposterous War?? or is it more important to ensure that your citizens are healthy and educated?

If Bush had spent all that money (100 Billion $ plus) on improving healthcare and making it free for everybody, you would ahve had a less hated, healthier nation. Instead you have more threats and sicker people. I don't see how that state of affairs can be justified.

The incredible fear of bankruptcy from taxes is just a big fat lie disseminated in the population by those greedy super rich that play on YOUR sentiments in order to safeguard their own property and profits.

As a Danish citizen i paid 50% in taxes when i lived there.. and i can assure you that i had the SAME opportunities to get rich as any US citizen.. only i never had to worry about getting sick and not being treated AND i never had to worry about not having access to knowledge and education for me or my family.

The danes work as hard as any american.. there are super rich danes too ( Maersk Mckinnery Moller sits on 56% of WORLD SHIPPING - he's worth more than Trump). Danish industry is blossoming. Our political culture is rich and varied. Our poorest still have the opportunity to make fair money ( public welfare only lasts a limited period - after that they get a job) But most telling of all, every dane feels they own their nation, and every dane pays his taxes without being sent to the poorhouse.

Denmark didn't implement these things policies AFTER it got rich... rather it got rich because it implemented these policies and created a population that was healthy, well fed, educated and MOTIVATED ( motivated because they know that working hard makes life better for them AND their country).

The american obessession with each man for himself.. well that works out GREAT for certain individuals.. unfortunately the majority of the population winds up paying the price for it.
Love for all, Hatred for none

First, I am a Democrat. So you failed your ESP course. You like all Republicans have spent the last 12 years being wrong about everything and screwing little boys in the butt. I think Republicans are a pack of sick freaks.
