In that case they would be killed anyway. Does anyone have a link to the actual text of the bill vetoed today? Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| Oh yes, how disappointing. Once again the President has vetoed a bill that goes against his deeply held beliefs. The poor scientists. They cannot create cells to try new experiments. So they cry and cry and cry about it, hoping to convince enough of the people to influence change. Unfortunately, there is one small problem. Although the President has vetoed federal funds, private funds as well as funds from the states are still available. Both Missouri and California have passed legislation allowing for the creation of embryonic stem cells. Because of the desire for federal funding we have to hear about this drama. Perhaps science should spend more time studying the uses of stem cells from adults, children and cord blood samples, cells that have already shown therapeutic uses. Or better yet, maybe they should get with the researchers who have recently reprogrammed skin cells to function like embryonic cells or even the ones that have successful utilized cells from amniotic fluid and placentas. But that would be too easy. No we have to draw a line in the sand and say the only way to do research is to create an embryo so we can destroy it. Where does it stop. If it is legitimate science to create embryos to research cures for disease, will we next allow for the creating of life so that we can harvest organs???? Would the benefits of this not outweigh its negatives?? dmk Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. It does not breed fanatics....But if you want men who seek, reasonably and prudently, to reconcile the best in wisdom of our ancestors with the change which is essential to a vigorous civil social existence, then you will do well to turn to conservative principles -Russell Kirk- | |||||||||||||||||||||

| There in lies the problem. No one is concerned with HIS beliefs. He is a public servant. HIS beliefs are irrelevant. He is there to best serve the will of the people who elected him. | I became physically angry when I heard the speech where Bush said something to the effect of, he cannot condone spending federal funds to support the loss of human life because it is immoral... This evil bastard will kill tens of thousands of Iraqis, he'll send thousands of real humans to war to die, he'll execute criminals, but he won't harm something that isn't human, but merely a potential human? He's so full of shit his eyes are brown. This son-of-a-bitch needs to be impeached.
