Considering we have millions of elderly people and young children receiving absolutely NO MEDICAL OR FINANCIAL help to make their lives even the least bit easier for them...Your 'crumbs' as you put it would be a god send to them, when they have to decide which is more important...Food or medical.
It may not be enough in your mind, but it's alot more then those citizens do have.
Also, you want to accredit Bush as who's at fault for our SS and disablity fund problems...Yet these problems have been known well before even his father was in office and it's been projected for more then 30 years now that SS/Disability funds would run out in our lifetime.
I'm no Bush supporter myself...But even I'm intelligent enough to realize that the issues you're trying lay at his feet isn't a situation he's created. Sure he hasn't helped the situation any, but the situation and reality is that when he took office, it was already a pre-exsisting problem that just got dumped into his lap like the previous presidents have had it dumped in theres...
And we're about to dump that problem into the lap of our next president as well. |

All we need to do is get a Democrat in office and stop all this fear-mongering and suspicion stuff...
Norights, why not choose a candidate from the Dems this time around?

OhDear | OD, it really won't matter if it's a Dem, Rep, Independant, or whatever that's voted in...Just like every president before them, the new one will be blamed for the state of welfare and SS issues.
Roosevelt left a terrible legacy for future presidents, when he implimented them. At the time they were needed, for sure...But in the long run all it did was create generations dependant on it's useage. |

Call yourself Brave_With_Rights or something like that...or Thankful_Heart.
OhDear | OhDear, the only right the average American has today is the right to be a consumer. We're no longer "We the [empowered and sovereign] people" but now "We the exploited...". I'd say we've always been exploited but perhaps the true limitations of the (solely political) American revolution are pronounced in the industrial-post industrial age of increased communications. I'm afraid empowerment and change for the better won't happen until something happens to accelerate thinking; that is, it won't happen until it is too late.

And I believe any one of us who has the right to express our own thoughts, as we do here, knows we have rights to yet hold to. Appreciate and insure the continuance of for generations to come.
What the author of this thread was articulating was a dissatisfaction with the provisions of our present government to supply his life with those things he no longer can earn. I believe that once one gets in the system, and there are many who need to, and many who ought to not be in it, but once in the system, there are many provisions that make possible a very comfortable lifestyle for anyone.
