Why should I worry about their health care? It takes care of itself there. No way our US government is going to see how they do. We're stuck with what we have, unless there's a 180-degree change overnight.

But if I should want to know, then I can get it from the horse's mouth - you.

Due to my service in the Marine Corps and its excellent medical benefits, I have my medical care covered by the VA. Why do you ask? Many jobs have medical benefits.

If I had not joined the military, I would be poor, but still covered by Medicare. Those are the rules.

Most jobs don't allow you to continue your health care after you are no longer employed there unless you pay through the nose for COBRA. You are no longer in the military, and you were not wounded in battle, so, IMO, you shouldn't be getting health care unless you are paying for it.

I do. $415 a year for my family. It's rough, but I manage. Long term disability? My wife has it. It's just another insurance. You either cover your a$$ or you leave it exposed. I value my lifestyle and I do what is necessary to keep it.

Like I said, your attitude is "I'm all right Jack, so bugger you"!

Even then you are overlooking the fact that you are subsidising other people's healthcare already with almost every purchase you make, just as we are subsidising your care (which I don't resent).

Why not face reality and implement a single payer system like a civilised country?

You don't have to worry about Australia's health care system, but you may benefit from educating yourself about it.

You may begin to realise how much Americans are being ripped off compared to peer nations.

You know what I recommend. I'm not totally opposed to a universal healthcare system. Just make sure everyone funds it. Nothing is free, and no one should get "free" healthcare at the same level of a taxpayer who IS paying for it. That's entirely insane to me.

But that's how you get your health care - it's effectively free to you at the point of access!

I agree everyone should pay, it's the only fair way.

Right now everyone pays in one way or another but not everyone gets coverage.

$415 a year for a family for health care insurance? Are you kidding?

That's nothing. I pay almost that as my co-pay through my work per month ($88 per week).

Please.
